WHAT's HAPPENING TONIGHT, you may be wondering...
Charles Latham and the Borrowed Band are at The Wake Forest Listening Room tonight (Friday - 7:30pm). A great band in a really GREAT venue managed by a great guy - Mike Allen. Charles Latham is a contender to many great songwriters including Bob Dylan and Gram Parsons. That's a lofty statement and I can hear some of you gawking so keep it down. If you haven't seen them live, you must. Also, disclaimer #1 - my daughter Abigail Sheriff is in the band - she's brilliant and always has been. At age 4 she was in the top 2% in the country when tested for math comprehension. She still counts tiles and creates patterns on the ceiling at the doctor's office. (who does that?) And Luis Rodriguez - no words. The hardest working man in show biz. Hes everywhere, all at once, all the time. Gordon Hartin plays the electric table like nobody's biznuss. Robert Sledge (sledgy!) - hard to beat Sledge. He's Mr Music brain. And last but not least Steve Anderson keeps the band on time - he's got the beat. I like what INDY Week says about Charles "... Charles Latham could be your new hero..."
The Beautiful People Club Band follow the Duke Street Dogs at The Blue Note Grill - I'm a major fan of the BPC- disclaimer #2 - they are my friends and colleagues. I love this trio. They're my new favorite band in the Triangle. I'm so happy these three foud each other. David Shore (drums) played with Rebecca & the Hi-Tones for many years. He's been at it a long time and plays with finesse. He's also really good to work with. Jason Barker is a hell 'o 'va guitar player and excellent composer. I love how tasteful a player Jason is. And my brother from another mother Glenn Jones (two Ns please), is not only a top of the line bass player and all around musician, he's an accomplished songwriter with a BIG OLD VOICE. I call him the Hugh Jackman of Americana. Glenn is also naturally very smart and clever. Really good with puns, y'all. I hope to do a special show with this trio in the near future. I am particular to their originals.
FNIM's (Friday Night in America) Lance White will be playing at The Kraken in the form of The Orange County All Stars - hopefully outside - around 8:30pm. Always a good time and kudos to the keeper of all things Friday Night, Lance. In all his/their various band configurations, they bring you a genuinely good time, rain or shine. Good old fashioned fun on a Friday!
I'm sure there are many other folks playing tonight. Go out and see some live music. "Music makes you smarter" - Robin Williams (often quoted by Jim Watson, Chapel Hill).
