RULES, REGULATIONS, & FRIENDLY REMINDERS:
Sign up for times in person. Host attempts to achieve fairness in assigning time slots and enforcing time restrictions, but is human, and may have to call audibles as the Benevolent Dictator of the open mic. Scheduling a time via email/text/etc. is only done for VIPs at the host's discretion. Polite and professional communication is required. :^)
Polite & professional performers may get 10 MINUTES [or 2-3 songs at host's discretion] (with 5 minutes [2+2=5] for setup & strike). SOMETIMES THIS IS EXTENDED TO 15 MINUTES, or REDUCED TO 5 MINUTES, but as always, it's up to the Benevolent Dictator of the show (host/sound guy) to make that adjustment as they see fit. :-)
Despite our title: Songwriter's Workshop Wednesday, COVERS of others' songs is permitted, as long as the songwriters are clearly credited. NO POETRY or PROSE, please. COMEDIANS are only admitted at the host's discretion (there is an early Comedy Open Mic that precedes our Music Open Mic)
Drum Set and Amps (1 bass, 1 guitar) are often available for use, but only at the host's discretion. NO MONITORS.
Backing tracks from digital music players can sometimes be used, but having your own cable with input options (1/4", RCA (red & white), etc.) is strongly recommended.
All styles are welcome, and rarer forms (Instrumental, Jazz, Classical, Experimental, World, Hip Hop/R&B, etc.) MAY get preferential treatment for the sake of curating a collective music performance with broader appeal and eclecticism than the typical open mic's acoustic guitars and voice.
1 Drink Minimum, and a strongly suggested $5 donation to host/sound engineer/house band/community gear fund/featured act is enforced. TIP bartenders well! [AT LEAST $1/each drink, NOT each round] If performers and their friends/fans don't buy drinks, the mic won't survive.
The tone and content of this info may fool you into thinking otherwise, but… WE PROMISE: THIS IS A SUPPORTIVE AND FRIENDLY COMMUNITY OF MUSICIANS! The host and some regulars will often offer to improvise accompaniments or learn songs to perform with you, and Sing-A-Longs are common! Join us for some fun! :^)
