Exciting events are coming up during our last full week of classes! The week begins with performances by several of our ensembles, and concludes with our 7th Annual Honor Band Clinic.

This year’s guest conductor and clinician is Mr. Ed Kiefer, an active composer, clinician, adjudicator and performer who worked as a public school band director for 28 years before taking the position of Director of Instrumental Music at Pfeiffer University.

The clinic opens with a Thursday night concert by the Newberry College Wind Ensemble and Jazz Big Band, under the direction of Dr. Jerry Gatch. Honor Band participants then begin rehearsals immediately following the concert and continuing throughout Friday and Saturday. You can hear the results of their hard work in a special concert on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 2pm in Wiles Chapel.

This Sunday, join us for a special concert and presentation by Prof. Wanda Neese! She will be sharing Rachmaninoff’s music, with the help of some friends and students. Photos and memorabilia will be on display in the AMC lobby at 2:30pm, with the concert following at 3:30pm.

The Department of Music had a busy homecoming Saturday! The NC Singers and Madrigals performed a concert for alumni, the Scarlet Spirit marched in the parade and performed at the football game…and this year’s homecoming king and queen were two of our music majors, Paxtyn Brown and Elizabeth Gray! 🐺🎶

Our new College Music Society chapter is presenting a concert of music by historically underrepresented composers, as part of the college’s Dufford Diversity and Inclusion Week. The concert will be Sunday, Oct. 27 at 6pm, in the AMC Recital Hall, with a small reception following.
