Shoutout to Representative Joanna McClinton , a heroine to women across Philadelphia and beyond.

Before her meteoric rise and historic election as the first woman Speaker of the House in 2023, Representative Joanna McClinton had already earned an undeniable reputation for hard work, shattering longstanding barriers, and her commitment to servant leadership.

As a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, McClinton championed , and . Clinton, alongside Representative La'Tasha D. Mayes [ ] helped to pass the The Pennsylvania CROWN Act or House Bill 1394 in July of 2023. As an organization at the forefront of workforce development, this bill directly affects the work we are doing to place those we serve into a fair and equitable job market.

Before being the first woman elected Speaker, McClinton was the first woman to serve as Democratic Caucus Chair, 2018-2020, and the first woman elected as Floor Leader for either party, serving as Democratic Leader, 2020-2023. McClinton was elected the 141st Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives on February 28, 2023.

As we celebrate Women's History Month, we'll continue to honor the trailblazers, the fighters, the sheroes, changemakers ,and the “Heroines of Philadelphia” who've shaped our past and inspire our future with their innovation, leadership, talent and activism. We encourage you to learn more about Joanna McClinton and the amazing work she is doing to make Philadelphia a better place to live.
