Happy Earth Day! Time for a fun @centralmassskatefestival reflection and story time 🌈🌾
For several years of @centralmassskatefestival, we were able to take a hyper-local (and high effort) approach to sourcing hay bales. Each summer, @emgeemann and a hard-working crew - especially @johnharryhubert - made their own bales, collaborating with a local landowner (and former landscaping client) to mow, ted, rake and bale two of the town’s fields. At the end of the event, these were either sold to a local horse farm or donated to a local farmer and Harvard Lion’s Club. It saved a ton of budget, and helped minimize the event’s carbon footprint while giving the bales a productive second life. We are so thankful that this was an option, as the cost savings also helped keep #CenMass alive through 10 years.
#EmgeeEvents has always been committed to running events sustainably - solar generators, sorted recycling, locally-sourced produce for rider meals, digital ticketing, reusable pint cups and signage, local lodging and storage, no single-use plastics, etc. Future goals include on-site composting, green transportation and more. With so many people in attendance at big events, we believe it’s imperative to minimize every event’s impact, even if it takes a bit more work. This often helps save on budget, too.

Fun in the sun at @granite_bc’s Wild Corn, the last stop of @emgeeevents x @jonessnowboards x @mammutna Splitboard Demo Tour this winter! We sent out a ton of demo splits and had a blast hosting “Avy Olympics” at the Mammut x Jones tent. Here’s a small slice of the action.

2) @granite_bc #WildCorn (4/3) has relocated to @kingpineski; this is the final #EmgeeEvents #JonesSplitboard demo opportunity of the winter; we will also host a fun @mammutna #AvalancheSafety equipment demo & #Avalanche Olympics. Purple Mountains Q&A: Jeremy Jones, Josh "Bones" Murphy & Mike Girard
Following #EmgeeEvents' & Alpine Shop's Oct 22 screening of Purple Mountains Film at Sunset Drive-In (Colchester, VT), organizer Mike Girard was joined in real time by Jeremy Jones & Josh "Bones" Murphy for a live Q&A on the massive outdoor screen.
Jeremy Jones is the founder and head of Protect Our Winters; the founder and owner of Jones Snowboards, with an almost life-long career as a pro snowboarder. He has pioneered the foot-powered category of backcountry splitboarding, tackling first descents on countless mountains way outside heli range (and with far less environmental footprint.) He has starred in many Teton Gravity Research films, including Purple Mountains.
Josh Bones Murphy is the Director and Executive Producer of #PurpleMountainsFilm, and has a strong reputation in the film industry. Most recently he directed, produced, and co-wrote the award-winning feature documentary film "Artifishal" that was commissioned by Patagonia founder and owner Yvon Chouinard. He is currently developing a feature doc on plastics that he is directing with Oscar winner Louie Psihoyos. Josh is a trained natural resource scienties and fisheries biologist.
Mike Girard is the owner of Emgee Events and MG Sales & Marketing, a New England-based sales agency that represents Jones Snowboards, Mammut, and multiple other outdoor industry brands. Mike studied Environmental Economics at Colgate University ('12) and advocates for sustainability, small business success and forward-thinking environmental practices with his brands and retailers.
