A brochure from when this building was the North End Ice Cream Parlor mentions that this beautiful wooden hutch came out of “a grand house on Drexel Avenue in Chicago”. It will now serve as a dessert staging area for cupcakes and sweets for showers and parties.

Who remembers the ice cream parlor? If you know the dates it was open, please comment!

We officially have our first event in 30 days! One of my lifelong friends baby shower❤️So excited! I haven’t shared any progress photos for a bit, so here is a peek at what we have been up to in the past few weeks. Just a few more days and we can get onto those freshly finished floors and complete the trim and decor. 😍 Then you’ll see us outside by working on the exterior. Princeton’s Elm Place was once lined with massive elm trees which towered overhead creating the beautiful canopy you see here. This shade dappled tunnel welcomed travelers from the East to Princeton’s bustling Main Street shops and businesses. We’d love to go back in time and hear the horses clicking along these brick streets as they pulled passengers toward their Victorian homes. Unfortunately, these trees were plagued by the Dutch elm disease and eventually removed. When we were brainstorming names for the event space, we wanted to pay tribute to the rich history of Princeton in some way. Research led us to name Elowen, which is a Cornish name for elm. It seemed a fitting name for our late 1800’s building which sits right at the end of the tunnel of elms in this very photo.

Things got a little dusty around here last week as we took down the plaster and some deteriorating drywall. This week the remaining walls will get skimmed and smoothed. And then it’s on to paint and floor refinishing! If you’d like to reserve a date or have questions, please message us! We are taking reservations starting in early June. Baby and bridal showers, birthday parties, anniversaries parties, rehearsal dinners, corporate meetings. So many uses for the space, plus we will be hosting our own events such as story time, music circles, and crafts with ❤️

As we work on the space, I wanted to share a quick peek into our vision for The Elowen Room. The original tin ceiling is already painted a beautiful copper and terracotta color, so we’re using that as inspiration to put together an aesthetic that’s rich, yet neutral. With the exposed brick, modern lighting, wooden chairs, and antique elements, it will be the perfect setting for bridal showers, rehearsal dinners, baby showers, and more. Seated at tables, we will be able to accommodate approximately 55 guests (or up to 75 with chairs only). We are making progress and hope to be open in June! Message us with any questions and we will be happy to assist you!
