We awarded a champion today and had powerful young minds take center stage at the Melrose library. The youth poet laureate program and the future of poetry is in phenomenal hands. Thank you to all of the voices who shared the stage today. Thank you to the Melrose library and the Roanoke arts commission for seeing the vision. It is quite humbling and im grateful. We will formally announce our champion and a lot of great things that will be in the works for our champion soon.

Tomorrow afternoon one Roanoke City civic minded Child will win our first ever Youth Poet Laureate prizes and will go on to represent our city sharing ideas through poetry. It has been a tough but rewarding road but the finale is tomorrow.

I work so much I didn't realize today was a requested day off. i didn't get to attend last nights program because I had to work. Today I took a minute to go by the municipal building to take a walk through the exhibit and it is indeed quite humbling to see so many good folks whom I've worked with, admire, and build with get their flowers. This portrait and this exhibit is an honest reflection of what love does in our community and I'm overjoyed to be able to play my part. There were nights I cried myself to sleep. There were days that I felt worthless and useless. At my lowest I wanted to give up but I had a lot of great people in my life who I felt Christ put in my life who continue to love me unconditionally and kick that truth to me to remind me who I am . I'm grateful to the real ones who see me. I am honored and thankful to Phillip Jr. Barrett for this heartfelt reminder. There were so many nights where Juicepoet Smith and I would hit the pavement just to talk to people to take a chance and get involved and that hasn't changed. We'd pass out flyers and meet so many unforgettable beautiful people. If you see greatness in me it comes from Christ. These past almost 10 years soul Sessions and its participants opened my mind to be teachable, Love harder, and to be adaptable. In a world where we want people in boxes it's important to know that we are so much more complex.We need more healing and love. Truly yours, Harvest Blaque

I am grateful for this day and I appreciate the chamber and the city recognizing me and my work. We do what we do because my friends and I love dope ideas and want to see people righteously healed. Right or wrong you can always count on the fact that I speak my mind. God is still working on me so it is,what it is. What you see is what you get and as I get older it's getting harder to deal with nonsense. I'm grateful and I'm truly humbled to receive this award and to be able play my part in today's Roanoke beautification day activities. I really don't get down with popularity contests, not saying that this is what this was because they see the grind. I stay to myself a lot more not because I'm better than anyone else I just quiet up to hear God more clearly. See, it's cool to be liked but we all know who's really riding for you when you miss a shot or have a misstep. Awareness is key and I never forget that. I must indeed stay humble with every opportunity that I've received. These lessons and gifts are from my father God and to God be the glory.
its imperative to be lead in our lives and not driven aka don't be thirsty. To get to a place and a mode to find out who you are and show the world who you are. See, with times that you lose you learn. I've been fortunate to learn that life is like a party. You invite people, some leave early, some stay all night, some laugh with you and some laugh at you. But in the end, there are a few who stay to help you clean up the mess. These people are your true friends. They are the only ones who matter. In my later times I've learned the truth about time and I don't have much time to waste and I frankly am not better than anyone else I am just for once opening my eyes to how fickle we can be in our flesh. So many folks want to prick and prod you. Some people want you to do the heavy lifting to make them look good but what's done in love is everlasting. There is a huge difference in what a win looks like and what looking good losing is. I'm in a season of learning the importance of protecting my love and my peace. So peace to you and much love.
