Notice,
Our next dance at The Riverview Club is Friday, May 10th. Our dances are provided by a group of volunteers known as the SABDA Board. Volunteers are needed to serve on this board. A special need is that of an experienced volunteer planner, bookkeeper, treasurer, to keep our records. If SABDA continues to provide dances at the Riverview club they all require advanced planning and coordination. If anyone is interested in serving on this board please contact Joe Burch.

SABDA is dancing again at the beautiful Riverview Club at 790 Christina Drive in St Augustine, Fl
Mark your calendars:

Setup time 6:00 to 6:30
Dancing 6:30 to 9:30
Cleanup 9:30 to 10:00
Decorations allowed on tables only. We no longer have decorating teams.
Entry fee: $20.00/person. We no longer have memberships. Pay at door only. Reservations not required.
Dress is Formal or Informal-a personal choice: No shorts
Music provided by DJ Jim.

These two dances are trials to determine if we continue. The following conditions must be met if SABDA continues.
1. Financial facts: Estimated cost each dance is 1200.00 dollars. $1200 divided by $20=60. We need 60 in attendance to continue. As a minimum we must break even or preferably have a small surplus in order to build a financial cushion.
2. Leadership facts: We are in need of All Qualified Board Members including Treasurer, Secretary, President or VP.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM JIM PAVONE, PRESIDENT, SABDA AND THE SABDA BOARD:
The new year, 2024, will bring changes to the way SABDA operates. THERE WILL BE A SABDA BOARD MEETING AT THE RIVERVIEW CLUB AT 6:00PM Monday NOVEMBER 13TH, TO DISCUSS THESE CHANGES.
FEES:
Liz at the Riverview Club has advised that our rates will increase from $725.00 to $750.00 a $25.00 increase in fees. The fee increase is not a major issue.
DANCE DAY/TIME:
A major issue is we will no longer be able to have our dances on Saturday night and will be allowed only Fridays as the cost to have this venue in 2024 would now be $6,000.00 for the evening if we choose a Saturday night. This is not a possibility. The Riverview would also impose a $250 fee in the event of any damages. Decorations and setup also must occur on Friday afternoon when the Riverview Club is normally staffed. For the dance lesson, dance, and cleanup we would have from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. If we are not out by 10:00PM we would have to pay an assessed fee of $250.00/hour.

SABDA MEMBERSHIP/VOLUNTEERS
SABDA membership has declined steadily for several years and we no longer have volunteers to assist in supporting SABDA.

CURRENT RIVERVIEW DANCE FEES:
The Riverview club currently charges a guest fee $15.00/person/dance and Resident Rate of $127.00 per person and Non Resident rate of $186.00 per person Membership to attend two dances per month for the year. Above fees taken from the St Augustine Shores (Riverview Club) Activities Membership Application for 2023. With all of these changes the dances provided by SABDA will be no different than those provided by the Riverview Club yet cost twice as much. .
Possible outcomes as a result of these changes:
A. The end of SABDA-shut it down after the December Dance or shortly there after.
B. Try the Dances on Friday. Based on current/projected attendance SABDA will not have sufficient revenue to pay the bills.
C. Change in venue. The problem is where is there another location with parking, dance floor, etc as nice as The Riverview Club that is affordable.

Input is solicited as to a way forward. If you have any ideas please provide them to the SABDA Board.

Our sincere sympathy and support is extended to Joanann Muller & Family in the loss of her husband, Ed, on October 30th. A Mass Service will be held on Friday, November 17th at 9:00am at St. Anastasia Church, 5205-A1A South, St. Augustine, Fl 32080. Interment will be outside at the church wall, Columbaria St. Anne. A luncheon will be served at the church hall following the services. The Mullers were loyal members of the St. Augustine Ballroom Dance Association (SABDA) for many years.
