I (meaning Bruce Pachtman) saw "Swimming with Lesbians"--the newest solo show written and performed by Marga Gomez--last week at The Marsh in Berkeley. It's hilarious and I highly recommend it. The first performance of this play occurred in January 2023 at Solo Sundays. I'm proud of that.

On September 28th, Kenny Yun MCed the final Solo Sundays. It was the 192nd iteration of this series. At the end of the show, Kenny asked those in the audience who had appeared on a Solo Sundays performance to join us on stage. Over 30 people poured on to the stage. If this picture were to include every performer who appeared in the series, there would be five times as many people in the photo. Robert Perez captured both the joy and sadness of the moment with this photograph.

This is a hard note to write.

Many of you know that Stage Werx Theater is closing at the beginning of October. At that time, the Solo Sundays solo performance series will also be taking its final curtain call.

Solo Sundays produced almost 200 performances over the course of 11 years; featuring 140 actor/writers, supported by a team of committed volunteers and sustained by an enthusiastic audience. We are very grateful to all of you.

We loved the work performed on Solo Sundays. Some of the pieces evolved into full-length shows which had runs locally and nationally. In some cases even, internationally.

As much as we enjoyed providing a showcase for both the moving and funny (sometimes both) pieces that we presented, it is the enduring friendships with both the performers and attendees that have meant the most to us.

We're pleased to say that there will be two final performances in September featuring different line-ups—both of them excellent--on two consecutive THURSDAYS (we can no longer recall why we choose Thursdays, but at the time, they seemed like excellent reasons.)

The first show occurs on THURSDAY Sept 21/7:00 and features Scott Cohen, Kenny Yun, Julia Jackson and Beth McLaughlin.

The final Solo Sundays performance occurs on THURSDAY, Sept 28/7:00 and includes Marga Gomez, Bruce Pachtman, Janet Thornburg and Wayne Harris.

Please join us in September for our farewell performances.

Tonight's Solo Sundays (6/25) is sold out. On occasion, people turn in tickets for those in their party who couldn't attend. If you don't have tickets and wish to see the show, please arrive at the box office when it opens at 6:30.

Karen Ripley, a Bay Area comedy legend also appears on the show with "The Funeral", which, despite it's title, is hardly funereal. Paul Sussman rounds out the line-up. He returns to the series with a large section-featuring lots of new material--from his meditative and very funny piece, "Beyond Belief." This past Solo Sundays was off the hook! Flawless entertaining pieces from 4 top performers and a full enthusiast house, it was a golden night. Thanks to Gary Hughes, Beth McLaughlin, Paul Sussman and Pearl Ong for creating such an amazing show. Joe Klocek had us crackin up as our MC, Ady Abbot was stunning as our muscle for the evening and with Howard Petrick charming everyone at the door, the only thing missing was Bruce Pachtman! Bruce was protecting all of us from his close encounter with the plague. Thanks Bruce. He's responsible for pulling together all these talented performers. And this video! Well done, Bruce.
