KDHX is a pretty rare thing. In an increasingly commercial world, we’re proud to be a non-profit arts organization celebrating 30 years of independent music, art and culture in St. Louis and around the world. The Folk School, KDHX.org, and 88.1 FM all work together to form a thriving and well-rounded arts destination committed to building community through media. Back in 1987, some hippies, societ
al outcasts and aggressively insubordinate troublemakers all came together with an insane idea: “Why don’t we do radio the way it’s supposed to be done: with real DJs playing music you’ll never hear anywhere else. And why don’t we do it without any commercials.” We’ve carried on that spirit while getting better each year at what we now do best: delivering quality, independent arts and music programming that competes on the national stage. Because of this hard work from volunteers and grassroots listener support, KDHX is now a St. Louis institution — promoting music, art, talent, and big ideas from the little guys. At KDHX.org, we publish an incredible amount of music and arts reviews, exclusive in-studio videos, photography and more. KDHX also sponsors hundreds of concerts and community events — keeping local arts and music at the forefront of St. Louis culture. Located in the Grand Center Arts District at the Larry J. Weir Center for Independent Media, KDHX is right down the street from the Folk School. The Folk School offers music classes, workshops and more year round. You could say we're as addicted to spreading art and music as we've always been. But, thanks to people like you, our independent footprint is growing.
