Can you believe school is almost upon us? I can't, the summer has flown by so quickly. We've been gathering up our school supplies and getting ready for that morning routine!

Teachers are already in their classrooms getting ready for us. They've always *Lead by example*! And we appreciate all they do, so we came up with some cute gifts for them!

If you've been waiting for you pick flowers, we're finally set up! It's been a hot minute with family activities and flower orders! But we've hit that downward slope in the garden where we have a little more time and a LOT of flowers. We are open for U-pick on Tuesday - Saturdays 8-Noon most weeks but this week we will be closed on Saturday and only at the Ames farmers market. wear some good shoes and long pants 😁 see you soon!

Organically growing flowers means we do WEIRD stuff like order good bugs to fight off bad bugs instead of using insecticide. We literally order lacewings (good bugs) online and put them in our flower garden to fight off nasty plant eaters like thrips and aphids (bad bugs). 🐞

Our good bug lacewings are impressive predators but also hang around as quality pollinators.

So don’t mind us as we get excited about our insect deliveries…it’s just something weird organic flower farmers like us are into! 🌸 ♥️

Did you know that we’re a flower farm AND a florist? This means we know how to GROW and PROFESSIONALLY arrange flowers, and are grateful to do both for our community. ❤️

So..when you order a bouquet, floral arrangement or casket spray you may get zinnias instead of carnations or chamomile instead of baby’s breath. We always use what we grow on the farm first–if it matches the look and color that you’re looking for.

The great part is–you won’t miss the substitutions and you’ll be supporting a local business and enjoying fresh, organically grown flowers. 🌸

We have today’s learning opportunity for you–did you know that many of the traditional flowers you see in grocery stores and big box flower shops are not licensed to be grown in the United States??

Many of the roses and chrysanthemums you see are grown thousands of miles away at specific farms large enough to be awarded the contracts to grow these selections and GMO flower types.

This is why you see different flower varieties in our bouquets. We feature LOCALLY grown flowers from our farm. We don’t knock the big stores–we just want you to know why we’re different. ❤

Congratulations to the high school class of 2024! I had a good time creating these using special garden flowers at Red Granite Farm for a special in house graduation party this weekend. It's an honor to supply flowers for many of your parties today and tomorrow! 👩🏼‍🎓🎓🎉🎈🤍⭐

This was one of my favorites from last week! The order was for lilacs. We only do lilacs by request because they are a short lived flower. But they hold special love for so many! I pared wallflower with the lilacs, which has a similar sweet smell and a longer vase life. Mix in a few roses and tulips (which also smell great) with lavender waxflower to make an arrangement that will deliver the nostalgic scent AND look beautiful for a week or more!

Maybe it's my painting background, I just love an L-shaped or crescent arrangement. The movement of your eye feels like the way flowers sway in the breeze. What do you think?

How about when your tulip bulb grower subs some gorgeous double PURPLE tulips for the hot pink ones you ordered? You roll with it! For you moms who prefer purple over pink, we gotcha! Never fear though, we ordered in pink and orange roses, sunflowers, and all THIS moms favorite flowers for Mother's Day!

We will be delivering mother's day orders today through Saturday, the 11th!

We've been plugging away here (hah, planting pun! Get it?) and I'm excited that after a busy week the website is finally updated with our tulips! If you are looking for some beautiful fresh locally grown flowers, we have you covered! You can order online for pickup or delivery! (Ordering online helps our workflow but we understand placing sales online can be a barrier- give us a call!)

Here’s a little secret about some of the bridal floral arrangements we create.

The vase that you get your arrangements in, was likely purchased to support Affordables by Bethany Life Foundation (the nonprofit thrift store in town), which in turn helped the Bethany Life Foundation, who helped provide quality care for older adults. That is a LOT of helping with one vase–and YOU made it all happen just by ordering wedding flowers from us.

We stop in Affordables by Bethany Life Foundation often to check out their vase selection and regularly find fun and unique containers. The volunteers over there even keep an eye out for them for us! Keeping money in our community is important, just like reusing, so it’s a win-win for us. 💐

Working away here at pretty wearable flowers! These days most florists use floral glue to put corsages together, but I think there's nothing like wire and tape to make them secure. It takes extra time but it's worth it. Each one is my new favorite!

Prom is almost here! If you are looking for a beautiful and comfortable wrist corsage for your daughter or date, look no further! I love cranking out these little guys, they're just like little pieces of art!

Sooner is better if you are looking for some special colors, send in an order and we will get it lined up for you! I'm working on some options for pick up in story city on the weekend of Prom, perhaps from the school. So stay tuned!

Hey brides and grooms! We really think you should consider locally-grown, fresh-cut flowers for your wedding. We know we are biased though..so here’s a quick list of reasons to back us up!

1️⃣ No warehouse involved. You don’t have to worry about whether your bouquet will arrive on time and in one piece!

2️⃣ Fresh. Fresh. Fresh. We literally cut your wedding flowers close to your wedding date so they are bright and perky! No wilting is allowed.

It is that fun season of sprinter in Central Iowa. I had an idea to try out a woodland moss spring wildflower inspired bouquet and this is what I came up with. Though it's snowing outside, we're still thinking spring in here!

Just finished up this gorgeous one for an order to deliver tomorrow. Love it! I'm feeling the golds and yellows for this week!

More flowers are going to be delivered for next week including these white lilies. Perfect for an Easter celebration or really anything. I wish you could smell them too!

There are no hard and fast rules when you’re planning your wedding, of course. But if you’re a bride that wants to stick to tradition, don’t forget to add corsages to your floral list. I love learning about new bows to try! This one looks hard but it is pretty simple! The wider the ribbon the easier it is so far, which is unusual.

Short answer: yes, sometimes! In the global flower market there are a handful of truly blue flowers. These blue mums are genetically modified to be blue! Naturally blue flowers include sea holly, a type of thistle. These are the only types of flowers that are *usually* easy to find at the wholesaler! During the growing season we have blue delphinium, bachelors buttons, and forget me not in blue, grown here on the farm! Blue hydrangea is available seasonally.
