This in-person workshop is starting next month with ZUZI Dance. If you are struggling with life amid a pandemic and feeling anxious, angry, confused, sad, mad, despairing, numb, terrified, stressed or just plain unsettled, you're not alone. This class is designed to bring us together, safely and masked, to find strength in vulnerable spaces using dance choreography as a place for empowerment.

'"He learned about how Covid-19 has been disproportionately affecting blacks, who have been hospitalized and dying at a much higher rate than whites. “I wasn’t surprised,” he said. “You hear about the disparities that black people suffer all day long these days. I wasn’t going to make the dance about it.”

But then, as he looked at what he was making, watching 30 seconds of it over and over for hours, he said he realized, “This is deeper than I intended.” Following the feeling, he pushed the video further into a kind of fever dream. “The piece told me what it wanted to be.”'

Jamar Roberts’s short video “Cooped” is a powerful artistic response to the Covid-19 crisis, with added resonance after the killing of George Floyd.

Magic in the making! Sleeping Beauty retold through a Dance Aloud lens. The youth class is only two rehearsals away from their debut of " A Spell to Remember".

"A Spell to Remember". The youth class has created a new twist on the classic fairy tale "Sleeping Beauty" and transformed it into a whimsical dance.

The sun is rising earlier which means the rainbows are lasting longer making for colorful dance inspiration in the studio. Youth class continued mapping out their story sequence inspired by the classic fairy tale "Sleeping Beauty". Stay tuned to find out whether these creative storytellers will wake Sleeping Beauty from her spell or leave her in the land of dreams...

Dance Aloud classes got right to work this morning by crafting characters, discussing themes, costumes and props! We began our story structure and created a phrase for the beginning of our dance choreography!

Calling all YOUTH performers!
Dance Aloud is excited to announce its newest class for students ages 6-12.

Students will be exploring the enchanting and peculiar world of Fairy Tales through a theatrical retelling of Sleeping Beauty.

Students will have fun creating their own spin on this classic tale by developing characters, exploring themes/symbols surrounding fairy tales, designing costumes, creating props, and sequencing main ideas using dance choreography-all of which will be showcased in a staged performance!

Classes begin Saturday, January 25th and will run through Saturday, March 14th. 10 AM- 11 AM.
