Thursday at the Vic.....
Dear Supporters ...

Our last regular Acoustic of 2023 folks! There is an irregular one on Saturday 2 December ... more on that later.

First up is Kath Weyer who was too ill to perform last show, so here she is - wonderful voice, beautiful songs accompanying herself on uke. Next are James Fourie and Nichola van der Poel. Nichola on vocals and James on guitar offer a few Bert Jansch songs and some poems by James' great aunt, Kathleen Porter, that James has set to music.

After the break a sad occasion for Acoustic and Grahamstown. Alex Collett will be showcasing a mix of originals and covers on guitar and piano. Her original music is inspired by a variety of musical genres from alternative blues rock to reggae and folk music. She leaves for Cape Town the next day! What's so special about Cape Town?

Closing off the evening Anton Krueger will read from his new poetry publication Everybody is a Bridge, against a musical background provided by James Fourie, Geoffrey Tracey and Rick van Heerden.

I wouldn't miss this one!

Dear Supporters ...

So good that we can have TWO shows this month as we used to! We dropped to one when we started struggling to find performers but it seems those days may be over (for now). Especially pleasing to welcome so many young performers, many of whom are Rhodes students. The future of Acoustic is in your hands! We're also delighted to see an influx of AMP alumni; it is a tribute to the wonderful work of that amazing music school.

Hluma Xako and Catherine Nel open the show. They are Rhodes music students. They will be playing two piano duets - one of which is ‘In a Persian Market’ by Albert W. Ketelbey - and a few solos. PS: This is an unofficial rehearsal for their final exam the next day! Kath Weyer is next. Usually accompanied by Hennie, Kath will be accompanying herself on ukulele and piano.

Next up after the break, The Signature Collective is a brand new group, bringing together some of Signature Sound's members and Makhanda's best musicians, each contributing their distinctive style to create a fusion of sound that is truly their own. They specialise in wonderful harmonies.

Fulcrum closes the show. Rich Wyngaard will be playing his rare Baritone acoustic guitar and providing lead vocals, supported by Gavin Brown on guitar and vocals and Maxine Smit on vocals.

Great show I think and the second last of the year. See you there!

The international Boston Symphony Orchestra visting the Grahamstown National Arts Festival 2023
It was a pleasure hosting 140 souls last night at the Vic , with brilliant meals and dietary requirements being adhered to👌👌Thanks to the team that worked so hard as we got this booking at short notice , but what a lovely crowd !
We at Gino's, Voodoo, Hoel Victoria Mews we can make anything happen 👌
