We had our July Wine Club dinner last week on the estate and it was nothing short of an spectacular event. We teamed up with Davide from . Davide joined in with he’s team making the most amazing Fior Di Latte Mozzarella. This is a semi-soft, fresh cheese made in the style of Italian mozzarella. We paired our wines with some of he’s Italian dishes and finished off the evening with Straw Wine dunked chocolate brownies. Thanks for all that joined in on this wonderful evening and looking forward to our next meet up.

Let Your Love Sparkle This Valentine’s With The Foothills Monogram MCC

If bubbly is your wine of choice to woo that someone special this Valentine’s Day then the 2019 Monogram Collection Méthode Cap Classique (MCC) from Foothills Vineyards is the perfect choice.

Made in the traditional sparkling wine process where the second fermentation take place in bottle, and the wine is left on its lees until disgorgement, in this case 15 months. According to winemaker Bennie Booysen the MCC, which is a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, is a beautiful pale gold hue, with very fine bubbles. A prominent chalky top note is thanks to the dominance of the Chardonnay (65%), perfectly blended with the Pinot Noir (35%) to make up the balance of this popular wine in their collection. On the palate the flavours showcase fresh citrus, and together with the lees contact results in a bubbly with a satisfying fullness and lingering finish.

In keeping with the style of a boutique wine estate, only 1 600 bottles of this vintage have been made, and at a cost of only R200 per bottle, is guaranteed to sell out quickly.

We normally pick about 8 to 10 bunches and check ripeness and sugar levels. We pick them by hand, squish them all together and check the free flowing juices. Ripening of our fruit is not always linear, so we leave it up to Bennie and Suren to make the decision to leave them on the vines for longer. We need the crispness, brightness and thirst quenching qualities to bring the balance of our wines. So much more happening behind the scenes and in the vineyards, but what a magical process and we are here for every moment of it
