Oh what a night with Cara Luft and her 50 for 50 entourage! Barry Luft, The Doggone Brothers, David Morrissey and Emily Triggs brought us an outstanding show. (Can you say banjos???) 🪕 🪕🪕🪕
It was an absolute treat to have all of these incredibly talented folks together on our Saturday Night Special stage! Thank you!

At our next show on March 16th , we are so pleased to welcome Cara Luft to our Saturday Night Special stage!

Cara is a Juno award-winning singer/songwriter/musician who is a founding member of Canadian folk super-group The Wailin' Jennys, and the brainchild/bandleader of Winnipeg's acclaimed powerhouse duo The Small Glories.

Cara is so clearly at home on the stage, and invites her audiences into her world with a rare and endlessly appealing confidence and humility. Known for her superb musicianship and accomplished song writing, her humorous anecdotes, and the charm of her stage presence, Cara’s the real deal! There’s nothing pretentious about her. And that sense of honesty, integrity, personality and spontaneity permeates both her music and her live shows.

On March 16th Cara will perform with: cellist David Morrisey from the Calgary Philharmonic, guitar player Emily Triggs, her father - folk singer extraordinaire, Barry Luft, and from Fernie, bluegrass duo, the Doggone Brothers!” It is an evening that is not to be missed!

It was a memorable triple header on Saturday night starting off with our house band The Beagles, followed by Calgary’s own Jenn Beaupre. The evening came to a rousing conclusion with the dulcet tones and wry humour of Sons of Town Hall! Thanks to everyone who came to support another great evening of live music in Calgary!!

The Small Glories were scheduled to be with us on March 16th… we are disappointed, but wish them all the best.
So keep an eye on this page, Chuck is working on booking another great act for us for that evening and we’ll update you asap!

The Small Glories have made the difficult decision to go on a hiatus in 2024. While we have thoroughly enjoyed the profound connection we have with our audience, and the ways in which our music has impacted and changed people’s lives, we also recognize the need to take critical time to rest, restore and reflect.  The demanding nature of our job often takes a toll on our relationships and on our own mental stability. Therefore, we feel the need to step back and go “home,” both to be present with and to our people, and to reconnect with ourselves.

We firmly believe that being a musician is a privilege, and the act of singing harmony together is a deep and transformative experience.  It is a connection that goes beyond words and touches the core of our beings.  This connection has been one of the driving forces behind our musical journey. We understand that in order to continue creating and sharing music, we must first ensure our individual well-being.

We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all of you who have supported us on this incredible journey.  Your love and appreciation for our music have been a constant source of motivation and inspiration to us.

After our December shows, we will be taking a break from performing.  We sincerely appreciate your understanding and support during this time as we embark on this personal and musical hiatus.

Thank you for being a part of our lives and for sharing in the beauty of our music.  We look forward to reconnecting with all of you down the road. 💜

Boasting bouzouki, fiddle, bodhran, banjo, guitar and button accordion, they are champions of East Coast music who will enliven and enlighten with both songs and tune sets which they’ll deliver with an honest swagger that is far beyond their years! Tim’s heartfelt and thought provoking lyrics, backed with the highly skilled talents of Marc Ladoucouer, Zach Daniel, and Jamie Cooper delivered a stellar performance that left everyone wanting more!

Our next club on November 4th is a very special one with Alberta’s own Tim Isberg!
Singer, Songwriter, Soldier, Storyteller and ACMA Male Artist of the Year Nominee, Tim is an accomplished singer-songwriter who emerged on the scene after a lengthy hiatus from music to serve in the Canadian Army.

From Rwanda to Afghanistan, Tim experienced the challenges of living and working in different cultures and conflicts amid the best and worst humanity has to offer. As a performer, he has entertained audiences in many corners of Europe, east Africa, Afghanistan and throughout the Middle East and Levant. Many of his storyteller songs stem from these life adventures.

Tim will bring his well-crafted contemporary Folk-Roots-Americana songs to our stage with his appealing vocal timbre; and more than that, an endearing array of life experiences that he’ll share in a way that will make everyone feel connected. With a genuineness to his stories, and a natural sense of humour carefully woven through a fabric of story and song, it is Tim's live show where he shines most.

Tim's latest full length album - 'Running On The Edge' was produced and engineered by multiple Grammy nominee and JUNO award winner Miles Wilkinson (Guy Clark, Rodney Crowell, Emmy Lou Harris). It was nominated for Top 5 Best Albums by the ACMA. His previous album 'Tears Along the Road', was selected by Music Canada as one of the Top 25 albums produced in Canada.

Here’s the line-up!

-September 16th we’ll kick off our season with Juno Award winner, Order of Canada recipient, and Saturday Night Special Club favourite, Valdy!

-October 14th, The Shari Ulrich Trio will bring insightful lyrics, engaging warmth and humour to our stage. A triple dose of stunning harmonies that you won’t want to miss!

-November 4th Tim Isberg’s authenticity and natural sense of humour is carefully woven through the fabric of story and song that will make every listener feel connected and moved.

-November 25th hoist a jar and get ready for Newfoundland’s Rum Ragged when they bring the good tunes and the good times with bouzouki, fiddle, bodhran, banjo, guitar and button accordion!

-January 13th we’ll start 2024 with epic guitarist and soulful singer Jack Semple. Think Stevie Ray Vaughn meets James Brown meets Robben Ford… It’ll be a hot night in January!

-February 3rd is a double-header! Calgary’s own Jenn Beaupre opens the evening with her powerful vocals, and then, hailing from the south of England, we'll welcome Sons of Town Hall. Part balladry, part performance art, and totally cool… complete with Victorian-era costumes, sing-alongs, and meditations about the seafaring life.

-February 24th, we're happy to present Alberta’s own, The Wardens. This Rocky Mountain-based band’s stories and songs rise from the very land they’ve protected as national park wardens, blending folk, roots and western styles, reflecting Alberta & Canada's protected wilderness areas.

-March 16th, we welcome Winnipeg’s The Small Glories. With a stage banter striking a unique balance between slapstick and sermon, this is a live show that is as heartwarming as it is hilarious, as finger-picking proficient as it is relatable, and as Canadian as, well... it’s very Canadian!

-April 6th we’ll wrap up our season with the exceptional Canadian folk string quartet, The Fretless! They have been transforming fiddle tunes and folk melodies into intricate, beautiful, high-energy arrangements that have quickly gained a dedicated following and accolades from around the world.
