Wine Down Wednesdays in August 2024

The decision to keep presenting live music in the city square into the warm evenings of August came about a few years ago in conjunction with the Old Firehouse Wine Bar’s involvement with their outdoor extended patio and yes, the crowds that have attended will attest to this being a very good concept

Led by veteran keyboardist Phil Newns and his vocalist daughter KC, the members of this tight quartet all hail from Vancouver Island -enjoy the upbeat standards that have been performed by some of the great women of song
4pm Blackwood -from the east coast dynamic duo of piano and bass clarinet- a musical experience that must be witnessed
5pm Keanu - a Canadian/Native American guitar player and composer from Nanaimo- his debut album Celestial Desire was released in March 2022 to critical acclaim and earned him a nomination for "Instrumental Artist of the Year'' at the 2022 Western Canadian Music Awards
6pm Follow the Sound - saxophonist and composer from Victoria BC , Rowan Farintosh, gathers some very fine young island jazz players to join him on these musical journeys

5pm Ear Candy -one of the many bands we will be presenting on Saturdays at 5pm that perform regularly on Friday nights at our local Eagles Lounge on Boys Rd. for your dancing pleasures
6pm Doc Fingers -when it comes to that therapeutic, good time, boogie woogie blues, jazz and rock n roll, no one tinkles the ivories like the Doc
7pm Lost Talkers - from Victoria - original indie/pop rock that has lots of flavor that you want to make you –

8:15pm Nautical Disaster -they do their damndest to sound just like the original material-they jam regularly to stay tight on the songs and gel as a group, so when their lead singer gets going on a lengthy improvised rant on the outro to "Looking for a place to happen" the band can just keep things rolling seamlessly -the frontman has some big shoes to fill, but the Gord above is smiling because Ryan does a good job

4pm Felicia Harding -she is gifted with a magical voice capable of both direct intensity and soothing serenity – she has social media presence that you should follow
5pm Zach Thompson local singer-songwriter brings his band to perform his great tunage
6pm Dance Temple Cowichan -Ali and Chris have put together an awesome electronic music thang playing tasteful African inspired music with lots of love and live samples with chris’s grooved percussion ... extremely danceable
7pm Pinebox Rebellion - these seasoned local players have their own genre, kinda rockish indie pop that works real well and creates a fun energy - they have been recording new tunes as of late and are ready to present them

5pm David Santana Trio - jazz guitarist and composer from Victoria who with every performance, his aim is to bridge the gaps, transcending individuality to create a collective experience - it's a celebration of unity, an invitation to embrace our shared humanity - through music, we rekindle connections and reawaken the echoes of our common essence, nurturing a sense of togetherness amidst the vastness of existence - when this is accomplished music is indeed medicine.

2pm Boneyard Babes - an ensemble of Indigenous and queer-identifying musicians committed to building a sense of community through music -with a wide representation of originals, traditional folk, roots, and old country, their music embodies percussion, rich harmonies and a powerful female presence - their music evokes a deep sense of healing connection to Mother Earth and Turtle Island, bringing warmth, kindness, humour and a passion that is evident in all they do

6pm Mark Crissinger- known in some circles as a blues player he also writes his own stellar originals and his delivery is as good as it gets – Jay Stevens on bass fills it right out perfectly
7pm Anneda and the Flood -Anneda has a new cd out of her original songs and with the band the fullness of the production is brought forward

9pm Dennis Atkins - he does justice to many cover tunes but tonite he brings his own songwriting skills to the forefront-a roots country, honest kinda feel with a very smooth delivery- most refreshing

4pm Kate Stott - first heard Kate at an open mic in Victoria and immediately asked her perform for us
5pm Neil Trett - from Victoria, another frequent ‘open mic’ flyer was impressive with his performance one evening and so he was invited to the Cowichan Valley
6pm Meagan Maria Trio - as a trio today, Paul Jutras on drums and Hayden Johnson on bass, island-style music flows through her blend of Spanish and English songwriting. Expect everything from ukulele cha-cha to beautiful piano waltzes accompanied by a unique vocal talent
7pm Elise Boulanger -Chamber-Folk-Pop artist, a bilingual multi-instrumentalist and environmental advocate that creates cinematic dreamscapes

2pm Island Storytellers Presents -Island storytellers gather in various groups up and down the island to hone the 'ancient' art of storytelling, from the Victoria Storytellers' Guild, The Around Town Tellers - Nanaimo, and the Mid-Island Storytellers, based in Qualicum Beach/Parksville
3pm Homespun Band -a folk fusion band from Vancouver Island, the creation of singer/songwriter Duncan Sutherland, they blend different musical genres that echo folk, blues, bluegrass, swing and country
4pm High Definition Chicks -trio of ex-Curl band members Helen Davies (lead vocals and guitar), Dee Cooper (keys and vocals) and Christa Brenan (percussion and vocals). Blues, R&B and a bit of country with a few cool originals thrown in.
5pm Neavv - singer/songwriter/producer new to the valley - classically trained, pop took over and the results are awesome- there is an edge to her music that cuts to the bone - and that voice!!!
6pm Belly Dancing Extravaganza -Georgia Foster has once again invited some of the many island belly dancers to gather for a most colourful display of belly dancing fun and camaraderie

4pm Allison Brown -she brings her distinctly tuneful, powerful voice to her endless collection of hand-picked roots music repertoire alongside crafted original songs - her vocal elasticity stretches three octaves; she delivers melody with conviction
5pm Andy Cooke -a songwriters songwriter, this valley resident is most pleasant to listen to
6pm Rumblejam Grooves - 7 young jazz musicians from the Comox Valley lookin’ to be heard and what better audience than our attentive festival goers
7pm Pozitive Rebellion -reggae vibes oozing off the stage- one must dance, this local 5 piece brings it to the people in manner that we all become one

8:15pm Clay Pigeons - 5 piece acoustic band do a tribute to the music of John Prine, Townes Van Zandt, Blaze Foley, Guy Clark, Iris Dement, Lyle Lovett to name a few - the arrangements are their own, featuring beautiful lush interplay between the fiddle and mandolin, with the members taking turns on lead vocals and supporting each other with big 4 part vocal harmonies.!

2pm Linda Tesser - she sings cover tunes that move you real well and maybe she will sing a couple of her well written originals - joined by Gordie Allen on guitar
3pm Teacher / Student Showcase -Judy Hogg Celtic Rhythm Dancers such wonderful young dancers with such intent
4pm James Hamilton -he sounds of a sitar in the late afternoon outdoors and sometimes with a guest singer and possibly a belly dancer
5pm Christopher Jackson -from Kingston, Ont. his first venture to the west coast and not his last- a superb singer/songwriter in a folk fashion
6pm Lance Lapointe -known all over as the consummate sideman it appears he is a songwriter as well having just recorded his first originals CD, he comes to the 39 Days of July ready to let it all out
7pm Grinning Barretts- they have taken Celtic sounds and mashed them up with gritty punk rock passion to create a wild ride of traditional that will move your feet into jig formation and bring out your rabblerouser

6pm Camille Miller -catchy,pop/rock,guitar-wielding, soul singing,RED-HEADED pop ju**ie ... along with some friends – she is back in Canada for a short time and of course she had to play the 39 Days of July 2024
7pm Beatlemania unplugged -a local vocal acoustic Beatles tribute band that perform songs from the Beatlemania era. From the Beatles first album Please Please Me to their sixth album Rubber Soul, Beatlemania Unplugged replicate the John, Paul, and George vocals as on the original recordings.

2pm Jan Randall - keyboardist extraordinaire, singer-songwriter from Victoria presenting a whole concert of originals
3pm Teacher / Student Showcase- Kathy White Dancers - pure joy watching these young students take to the stage
4pm Don Wilke - slidin’ on his national steel is one of his fave thangs to do - and write songs
5pm The Tami Blazer Trio – featuring Tami on vocals with Kelly Fawcett and Carson Maertz on guitars – a hit at the Queen’s Sunday Blues Jams in Nanaimo
6pm Third Degree- fine electric blues acknowledging the old guys and still bringing in the new tunes , these local guys deliver
7pm Thor Jonsson Band -Thor has called the valley home for quite awhile now and has brought his brand of blues guitar playing to many people - always surrounded with stellar players, no better way to enjoy this Blues on Tuesday series

3pm Teacher / Student Showcase -Lara’s Belly Dancing Studio always a hit at the festival she brings two very new dancers with their very own ‘camel dance’ routine
4pm Mia Kelly - writes and performs in both French and English, Mia enthralls listeners with a distinctive blend of folk, rock, and blues and is making her mark in the Canadian folk music scene

6pm Neavv -singer/songwriter/producer new to the valley - classically trained, pop took over and the results are awesome- there is an edge to her music that cuts to the bone - and that voice!!!
7pm Reuben Shepherd and the Too Far Gone - young singer/songwriter so impressed us 2 years ago at our open mic that we have given him 2 slots this year-also he is scheduled for SunFest 2024
