We have been so insanely busy rounding out our wedding season/getting the gardens ready for fall that I haven't been able to post for a couple weeks! I don't think I actually have a *favourite* flower anymore, but at this exact moment it's Sweet Peas! They have been SO remarkable this season! Unfortunately, it was so hot the past couple of weeks in our field that the stems have shortened significantly. But, the 8 ft. vines are saturated with colour, and its fun to finally admire the many varieties in our house and of course, to photograph them! 🌸✨🐝

I can't believe the incredible heat we have seen in Nanaimo over the past week or two. Enjoying the Spring bloomers for the little time they have left. 'Giant Peach' Icelandic Poppy, 'Nimbus' Sweet Peas, Centaurea and a few Stock that were lucky enough to see summer. Before you know it, we will be ripping these plants up and preparing the beds for next years early Spring flowers. 🌿🌸✨

Seeding Sweet Peas this week, anxiously waiting to see them climb their trellises again and spoil us with their perfume. I just wanted to introduce myself and say a quick hello to all of the lovely people who are here enjoying the flowers with me and supporting our little business, too!

My name is Cody and I am a cut flower grower and garden (hermit) lover living on beautiful Vancouver Island. My partner Andrew and I specialize in growing unique, seasonal blooms that you won't find at your supermarket florist shop. We sell to floral designers on Van Island, and provide one-off bouquet deliveries and weekly bouquet subscriptions within Nanaimo. We also offer full service floral design for weddings!

While my mom has maintained an amazing garden my entire life and my dad has ran a large turf farm among his other businesses, it wasn't until a few years ago that I sought to forge my own connection with nature. My partner and I were in between jobs, in between cities, dealing with the loss of a loved one and in desperate need of something to occupy our minds and make our day to day feel purposeful again. We started a small 4x6 vegetable garden with easy to grow plants like Tomatoes, Peas, and Bachelors Buttons. The following year we added 10 new raised beds and a large plot on the edge of my dad's farm. We grew everything we could get our hands on. Dahlias, Sunflowers, Ranunculus, Anemones, Zinnias, and cool filler/foliage like Fiber Optic Grass, Dusty Millers, Bupleurum, and huge fresh poppy pods. The smiles we saw on people's faces when they received a lush, fresh bouquet of flowers grown in their own neighbourhood really got us hooked.

In 2016, we took on 9 beautiful weddings for some truly amazing and adventurous people. This year, we have (FINALLY!) moved IN to the field at my dad's farm and with all of this additional space will pump out more flowers than I ever would have thought possible for us.

My goal with this little farming endeavour is to bring the same happiness and feeling of peace to others that nature has brought me over the past few years. Whether the flowers you receive from us are for a joyous occasion or to memorialize a loved one, we pour our hearts in to everything we do. We believe in environmentally friendly growing techniques and make sure we are doing our part to feed and protect our local pollinators and wildlife. Our flowers are unparalleled in freshness and fragrance because they are truly a farm-to-table product.

It may not seem very exciting to some, but today we received 700 Ranunculus and 750 Anemone corms in the mail! They came for us all the way from France and Israel. The last couple of weeks have been gloomy and a reminder of how near winter is, but these helped get me dreaming of Spring again! We will be growing Ranunculus La Belle Pastel Mix, Lemon, Chocolate, Pink, Pink Picotee, and Marshmallow as well as Super Greens Cream, Salmon, and Rose. For Anemones we will grow a Jerusalem Mix, Carmel Black&White/Albino, a few Galilee Pastel and Carmel Bordeaux. Florists, DIY Brides, and flower lovers don't forget about us come early March!! We are also working up a storm making wreaths for the holiday season so stay tuned for what's available over the next couple of days! 🌸✨🌾💪🏼🌲
