Vancouver based Arts Festival takes its final bow
February 20, 2013
After nearly half a decade and thousands of combined volunteer hours to make Olio Festival an annual event in Vancouver, the wonderful burden of growing up and marriages and travel and our core team members growing busier and busier with their real world schedules have made it impossible for Olio to continue in the fashion in wh
ich we would like. Special Events with local and out of town touring acts at various Vancouver venues and will be producing a new arts and music festival event—CULT.R.—in Spring 2014. Dani Vachon has launched The Beacon Collective, a group comprised of talented marketing, design, and arts-based individuals to help businesses reach their goals. The Collective provides creative navigation services to local businesses by determining the business's point B; mapping the route; and driving the project.

Over 30,000 people attended, supported, and celebrated local and international arts culture at Olio Festival over Olio's four year run. Olio had the privilege to produce and host shows for local and international artists we were fans of in dozens of Vancouver's most unique venues for some of the most unforgettable nights of our lives. Olio Festival was lucky enough to host events for local and out of town musicians and artists including: J Mascis of Dinosaur JR, Dillon Francis, Glass Candy, Chromatics, Ladyhawk, Cave Singers, Flosstradamus, Julie Doiron, Brasstronaut, Father John Misty, Teen Daze, AraabMuzik, Mr Vegas, Ladyhawke, Bend Sinister, Bonjay, Braids, Keys N Krates, Besnard Lakes, Malajube, White Lung, Nu Sensae, Active Child, Chad Valley, Com Truise, Chad VanGaalen, The Very Best, Shout Out Out Out Out, Tanlines, Maluca, Gavin McInnes & Derek Beckles of Street Carnage, Bob Masse, Manwolfs, Sara Ludy, Jokers of the Scene, Tommy Wiseau, Kyle Kinane, Stop Podcasting Yourself, Rain City Chronicles, The Sunday Service, CBC's This is That and hosted label showcases for Mad Decent, Unfamiliar and Light Organ Records, and amazing outdoor skate events such as Color Magazine's Jamcouver in the parking lot of the Waldorf Hotel (r.i.p.) and the hundreds of local Vancouver based artists that are too many to name. The festival even had the honour of hosting a comedic "roast" of Mayor Gregor Robertson! Olio Festival was also extremely proud to be part of bringing together so many Vancouver-based local and national promoters—Livenation Western Canada, Blueprint Events, Gman&Rizk, Timbre Productions, Waldorf Productions, and The Rio Theatre—and local venues to produce unique events for for the local arts community and the city of Vancouver under the Olio Festival banner! From festival directors Jason Sulyma and Dani Vachon and curators Cameron MacLeod (comedy), Tom Hill (comedy), Jenn Jackson (art), Daniel Code (film), Leila Bani (fashion), Sandro Grison (skate) and Kasha Marciniak (music) we would like to thank the city of Vancouver and the community, artists, sponsors, volunteers, and staff that made Olio Festival a reality!
