Our friends the frank theatre company are looking for q***r & questioning youth writers for their "Telling it Bent" interdisciplinary writing workshop. ✍️

With this special opportunity, participants will explore poetry and playwriting through a q***r, decolonial, lens. Participants will build connections with other young q***r creatives and liberate their sense of imagination.

The most exciting part? The program will culminate in a Final Showcase as part of the Cultch’s IGNITE! Youth-Driver Arts Festival. 🎉

Stuart Little 🐭 | Adapted by Joseph Robinette | Based on the book by E.B.White | A Carousel Theatre for Young People Production

The last show in our season is our very exciting CTYP production of Stuart Little!

As Stuart, the endearing little mouse with a great big heart, navigates a world built for humans, the play unfolds with a perfect blend of whimsy and heartwarming moments. 💜 Robinette's adaptation skillfully captures the essence of White's original work, highlighting Stuart's courage and resilience in the face of a world not built for such a little mouse. With a delightful mix of humor, adventure, and poignant moments, this play promises an unforgettable theatrical experience for audiences of all ages. 😄

Check out the Musical Naomi's Tree by Karakoro, coming up next month!

Based on the children’s picture book Naomi’s Tree by Joy Kogawa, this stage performance uses music, dance, and spoken word to tell the story of Naomi, a Japanese Canadian girl who loses her mother in the atomic bombing of World War II.

KARAKORO is a community arts group from Osaka, Japan, that performs in Japan and internationally. Artistic director Yoko Matsui has interpreted a number of children’s stories over the years and the group performed an earlier version of Naomi’s Tree in Toronto in August 2024.

We can't wait to share The Sissy Duckling, the third show in our season, with you in the Spring of 2025!

Elmer, The Sissy Duckling, is a happy, zany fellow that walks to the beat of his own drum. Sometimes he struggles to fit in though. When the other ducklings play baseball, he’d prefer to bake a cake. Or maybe he’d rather put on a puppet show instead of building a fort. He loves to do these things, but it can get a bit lonely when you’re often playing alone. It can be even lonelier if someone calls you a sissy… But Elmer is tough and caring and smart, and he's about to teach his family, and his entire flock, that being different is A-Okay!

The Screamer (Le Criard) | By Carol Cassistat | Translated by Dave Deveau | A Théâtre du Gros Mecano Production in Partnership with Carousel Theatre for Young People

We're so excited for the second show in our season, The Screamer (Le Criard)!

Flo Beaurivage needs to scream, to cry, to wail… but where? When you grow up there is nowhere left in society where you are allowed to be loud. But Flo cannot contain her screams anymore and finds herself at the edge of the sea almost as if something was calling her there all along. Told with a combination of poetic text, a drum set, and two performers, Le Criard/The Screamer will entertain, engage, and maybe even make you scream!

The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe by Le Clanché du Rand | from the story by C.S. Lewis | A Kaleidoscope Theatre for Young People Production

Let's talk about the 2024/25 Season! The first show we are so proud to present is an adaptation of The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe!

The White Witch has trapped Narnia in a perpetual state of winter with no hope of Christmas. But all that changes when four siblings venture through a mysterious wardrobe and enter this land of talking animals, charming fauns, giants, and dwarves. Alongside Aslan the Great Lion, the children courageously battle the forces of evil and discover that Love is the deepest magic of all.

Join Peter and Lucy for a magical adventure, as they take you on a journey into the magical land of Narnia. An inventive and highly theatrical adaptation of C.S. Lewis’s classic that’s sure to delight children and adults alike.

Carousel Theatre for Young People (CTYP) has been creating theatre for young people since 1976. Located on Granville Island in the heart of Vancouver, CTYP is Vancouver’s professional mainstage TYA Company. We are a gathering place for artists, young people and families to embark together on a journey where imagination, a dash of magic, and an abundance of play are the recipe for a theatrical adventure that has lasting impact.
