The Hindmarsh Hall

The Hindmarsh Hall The Hindmarsh Hall is a much loved community space at the heart of the village of Alnmouth on the beautiful unspoilt coast of Northumberland.

"Welcome to The Hindmarsh Hall..." Our much loved village hall lies at the heart of many of the events that make the beautiful village of Alnmouth so special for residents and visitors alike. Originally built as a granary in around 1750 the hall was shown on Thomas Wilkins map of the village dated 1791. After the great flood of December 1806, which changed the course of the river making St Walric'

s Chapel on Church Hill become isolated on its south bank. Algernon, The IVth Duke of Northumberland, had the former granary converted into a church in 1859 from whence it served this ecclesiastical purpose until 1876 when St John's Church was built in the centre of the village. The hall plays host to a diverse range of activities from small meetings and coffee mornings, to ballet, pilates and Dancefit, Explorer Scouts, professional and amateur performances and celebrations from children's parties to wedding receptions.

Wonderful news about the Scouts who meet at the Hindmarsh Hall.

Bear Grylls says ‘’Congratulations to the team at the 1st Alnmouth Scout Group. You make all the difference.’’

Chief Scout Bear Grylls said ‘’I’m so proud that the 1st Alnmouth Scout Group are continuing to grow. After successfully opening Squirrels (4–6-year-olds) in 2022, Beavers (6–8-year-olds) in 2023, and Cubs (8–10-year-olds) in 2024 they are now opening a Sea Scout Troop (boys and girls aged 10–14-year-olds) in September. This is good news for Scouts and good news for the local community too.

What an amazing team they are, and I couldn’t be prouder of everything they’ve achieved. They have welcomed children and young people from across Alnmouth into their Scout Group. They’ve equipped them with skills for life – helping them play their part in the local community. They’ve learnt the power of believing in themselves and others and how together they can do so much more.

They’ve camped together, cooked together, learnt digital skills; discovered more about their area and helped bring the community closer together too. They’ve met new and different people outside their school and local area helping them gain new perspectives. Scouts has given them the courage to learn more, do more and be more.

I’m so proud of everything the 1st Alnmouth Scout Group have achieved – not least the incredible kindness and generosity of our adult volunteers who make it possible. These are ordinary people from local communities who make an extraordinary difference.

To be a volunteer in Scouts you don’t need incredible outdoor skills or know how to use a map and compass. We can teach you all that. What’s really needed is a smile, patience, and willingness to share a little time to help others. I promise you’ll get back ten times what you put in – including new skills, new friends, and a renewed sense of the difference we can make when we work together.

The team at the 1st Alnmouth have already done so much in the last 24 months. But just think what they can do by opening a Sea Scout Troop later in the year! They’re unstoppable and I’ll be cheering them on every step of the way. Be part of this amazing success story and volunteer today.

A very big thank you to every Scout, parent, carer, and volunteer who’s made this happen. Together, we’re a force for good, helping shape a new generation.

Congratulations and very well done to all our Scouts and volunteers (past, present and future!)

Bear Grylls OBE

We are looking into having a Boxercise class at the hall. Boxercise is a high intensity training class based on boxing training. Boxercise includes aspects of boxing training but not sparing or competitive bouts.
Before the instructor commits to setting up the class she wanted to know if people would be interested .
