Dear Corners,

As some of you will remember about this time last year we were opening the gates for the last Cornbury Festival at Great Tew.

This year would have been our coming of age 18th edition and we just wanted to say we miss you - our fantastic team and you our lovely supporters.

Could we be back for our 21st in a couple of years time with a new location? Let’s see.

Our old friend Susanna Hoffs from The Bangles (Cornbury 2008) will be performing a couple of songs during her interview - expect a lovely moment.

The Pretenders – Cornbury perennials always good for seriously marvellous rocking tunes.

Alison Goldfrapp – great great artist. We saw her art school degree performance many years ago - she wearing lederhosen singing backwards in German while milking a cow - Alison's always been a total original.

AND loads of cool talking heads from Mel Geidroyc & Prue Leith to Marina Hyde and Michael Gove, Elizabeth Day and Happy Valley writer Sally Wainwright.

Best to book now before KITE prices rise on May 21st. We all love a good deal.

Dear Festival Friends,

We know times are hard and obviously made harder by the absence of our wonderful little gathering.

Many people have been asking us what to do for Summer entertainment and luckily we’ve found a rather groovy solution. We’ve been deluged with offers from eager event organisers from far and wide keen to make your acquaintance, but decided that there’s only one solution handily located just down the road from our old site.

Our new friends at KITE Festival – staged in the beautiful grounds of Kirtlington Park near Oxford – are only on their second edition but, from what we saw when we visited them last year, certainly on the right track. Obviously they couldn’t yet create the special magic we had at Cornbury, but they’re trying pretty hard!

They’re so keen to be our friends that we’ve managed to persuade them to give you lovely people a 25% discount on tickets for Kite 2023 which features:

Dear Corners,

I think it’s safe to say that we had a pretty fantastic final weekend. Thank God for the weather and huge thanks to you all for your support.

Thank you for all the hundreds of kind messages you’ve sent – they are all very much appreciated. With your help we’ve been able to create a rather unique little event that we’ve all come to love. After a two year absence it was really lovely to be reunited with my very special team and to have one more opportunity to produce this festival for you.

I’m afraid this was definitely the final Cornbury Festival. You never know, we may see you somewhere down the road, but in the meantime please take good care of yourselves.

Dear Campers, we are very aware of the noise issues last night and have understandably had many complaints. Music from the campsite bar finished at 2am, and there was no further amplified music on the festival site. We believe that a resident of the village (off-site) was having a party & this was the source of the music that was heard from the festival site in the early hours, and unfortunately was beyond our control. The police were informed. We are particularly disgusted by the selfish behaviour of one our neighbours and we will be taking appropriate action ourselves.

Dear Corners,

That Magic moment is almost upon us. Just a week to go before our gates open on Thursday July 7th at 2pm.

MOST IMPORTANT message of all is PARKING: A limited number of Parking Passes will be available to purchase on arrival at the festival, at a cost of £25 each. However, we cannot guarantee availability. It is therefore strongly advised that you purchase your Parking Pass in advance of the festival (for £12.50).

As ever we’ve got our usual mega mix of the best festival caterers on the planet. From fantastic Paella and Woodfired Pizza to gourmet vegetarian Mexican food, we’ve got everything covered.

We’ve always been very proud of our charitable contributions and our final year will be no exception. Not only have we decided to invite some of our new friends from Oxford Fostering to join us for our farewell celebrations but we’ve also got the wonderful team back for one last fundraising opportunity – let’s do our best to fund another companion dog over the weekend. We have HUGE respect for the bravery of the Medecins Sans Frontieres people currently operating in Ukraine & Afghanistan. We love the fact that the Cornbury crowd is one of the best fundraising groups per capita MSF have ever encountered – well done all of you!

NOTICE FROM THE CORNBURY OFFICE

There’s been an error with the printing of the Cornbury Festival tickets. Eventim have assured us that tickets (& car park passes) will be dispatched on Friday. If for any reason you do not receive your tickets before you are due to leave for the festival, please bring proof of purchase to the box office when you arrive. Dear Corners,

Just 2 weeks today at 2 o’clock we’ll be opening up the campsite for the final Cornbury. How exciting is that.

We’re hoping for a perfect British summer weekend, lots of dancing, some fireworks and possibly a few tears.

One of the late additions to the Sunday line-up is the true legend that is Geno Washington – a man that despite his 79 years and a bit of recent illness is still a totally soulful force. Worth coming just for him and other latecomer Steve Winwood – our Summer festival exclusive.

For those for whom it’s just about the moves, you’ll all be relieved that Cornbury stalwarts Disco Shed will be seeing us through the whole weekend. You’ll never have so much fun with some loudspeakers in a shed!

For the parental contingent there are two very good bits of news. Firstly we’ve got the biggest offering of Kids Entertainment we’ve ever seen BUT also we’ve finally done a sweet deal with Sweetheart Nannies to take the little darlings completely off your hands – excellent!

Dear Corners,

OK so this is it.

Here's our final line-up poster featuring all the lovely sounds bought to us by our friends at Charlbury and the constant team. As we know we've all had a rather grim time over the last 2 years (especially with no Cornbury obviously!), so it's particularly perfect to have some of our favourite artists return for the Last Hurrah. Riverside treasures like The Standard, Ukulele Bandioki, Beard of Destiny and the brilliantly named Pandapopalypse will be joining us over the weekend.

We love our Nero friends - they've bought so much to our party for over 10 years. The national treasure that is Chris Difford tells me his appearance in the Nero marquee a few years ago was one of his best shows ever, so we're super-excited that he's agreed to repeat it. Regulars Hollie Rogers, The Dunwells and Morganway add to the most stellar combination of artists while I'll be attempting to stop Nero boss Pablo stealing The Shires for a little impromptu performance upstaging themselves after their inevitable main stage triumph.

As you know Cornbury’s a Club Class festival but if you want to guarantee 1st class facilities for what my dear departed father referred to as ‘one’s arrangements’ you’re best to book When Nature Calls – they have showers & hairdryers and everything!

We hope you can join us for our very last show - even if you just pop by on Sunday to see if our new stage manager has completed the little task I've set him - can he get 100 members of the aptly named TUNELESS CHOIR on the main stage - let's see.

Dear Corners,

After 40 years at the coalface of rock ‘n’ roll we’ve made a few connections along the way. As we approach our Last Hurrah we’re scouring our little black book for a few final treats for you, so...

'Icon' is a bit of a funny word; literally 'a person of veneration' BUT, I think we can safely say, our special guest fits that bill. "A man recognised as an enduring influence on generations of music makers" sums him up perfectly. From the Spencer Davis Group, Traffic and Blind Faith to a huge solo career, Steve has been at the forefront of British music for over 60 years, and we’re hugely lucky to have him as Staks' very special final guest on Sunday July 10th.

You should be there to say Goodbye!

Dear Corners,

As the FINAL Cornbury approaches – now just a mere 8 weeks away – we’re delighted that our tickets are flying with only a few spaces left for campervans and a bit of accommodation available in glamping. Thank you so much for your support.

We can’t help but be a little nostalgic as we face the final curtain. All those incredible artists that have graced our stage from the rather grumpy Paul Simon to the exuberant Amy Winehouse, the lion of rock ‘n’ roll Mr Robert Plant to the ever lovely Imelda May. We can't wait to welcome back the singing soldier, the Canadian rocker and the king of boogie woogie for one last hurrah.

There are still a few surprises up our sleeve so watch this space for a few more musical treats as we ourselves leave the stage...
