We are so sad to hear that legendary showman Allister Hood has died. He truly was one of the best, not just as a horseman but as a person.

He enjoyed so many remarkable moments here at Hickstead, including an incredible nine Winston Churchill titles – a record that is sure to stand for some time. He produced countless top show horses, and it was always a pleasure to watch him compete.

We were honoured that he chose Hickstead for his official retirement ceremony in 2021, shortly after winning his ninth Supreme Horse title. That win came courtesy of prolific cob champion Our Cashel Blue, who retired from the show ring on the same day as his rider. Many of Allister’s fellow show producers gathered that day in the International Arena to give him a guard of honour – it was a fitting tribute to a man who did so much for the showing community.

He will be sadly missed by the entire Hickstead team, and we send our sincere condolences to his wife Anne, his children Louenna, Ollie, Harry and Ben, and to all of Allister’s family and friends.

They did it!

Congratulations to Craig Kiddier and Mulberry Lane, winners of the Supremes at both Hickstead and HOYS.

This is the pair winning the Barberstown Castle Supreme Horse title at the Agria Royal International Horse Show in July. They picked up their ticket to the supreme after winning the Saracen Horse Feeds Supreme Working Hunter championship, yet their HOYS win came following victory in the Ridden Hunters.

Here are Michaela Scott and Eddie G Z at the Agria Royal International Horse Show, after winning the United High Performance Bedding British Showjumping Winter Grades B & C Final.

The pair lifted this year’s Redpost Equestrian Senior Foxhunter Final at HOYS - what a great result!

What an achievement!

Craig Kiddier and Mulberry Lane won the Supreme Hunter title at HOYS yesterday. What’s really remarkable is that Mulberry Lane is best known for his successes in Working Hunter classes, having been twice champion in the Saracens Horse Feeds Supreme Working Hunter Championship at the Agria Royal International Horse Show.

The pair were the winners of the Barberstown Castle Supreme Horse Championship here at Hickstead, and now they’ve crowned their incredible season with their HOYS win. Can they go supreme at HOYS to complete the double?

Our showjumping course has reopened for hire, and we have some spaces left this weekend. The arena costs £60 an hour to hire on an exclusive use base only, though you can bring up to six horses per session.

We are sad to announce the passing of Michael Astore of Astore & Sons, our coffee and ice cream suppliers for over 30 years. Michael was a wonderful supporter and friend of Hickstead and will be sorely missed, however his legacy will continue through his sons Bruno and Frank, and grandson Anton.

We would like to send our condolences to the whole family at this sad time.
