Today is Funeral Celebrant Day.
As well as being a multi award winning wedding celebrant, I also have the privilege of being a funeral celebrant. But what does a funeral celebrant do?

As with my weddings, I will write a unique and moving ceremony that is a perfect reflection of your loved one and their life and give you and all those attending the service the opportunity to remember the ways the deceased touched their lives, and allow everyone there to say their goodbyes.

Like a vicar, I will probably not have met the deceased, but when I am contacted by the family or by the funeral director asking me to be their funeral celebrant, I immediately arrange a meeting with the family, usually but not always at their home.

There I will encourage the family to talk to me about their loved one, look at photos, and find out who this person was, their loves, likes and dislikes, and what made them them.
I also help the family to choose music, and anything else they would like to include in the service, so that I can craft a true and unique celebration of the life of their loved one.

I send this to the family as many times as necessary so that they can make any additions or changes, and only when they are happy will the script be complete. We will also discuss the flow of the service.

On the day of the funeral, I will be there to meet the family as they arrive, and conduct the ceremony for them.

Ceremony is essential to humans, from weddings, to namings to funerals. Having a unique and personal celebrant ceremony will give the family the ceremony they want for their loved one, allow them to say good bye and give them a sense of closure.

Would you choose a Celebrant for your loved one's funeral

Well, what a fabulous weekend! Here's just a few taster photos.

On Saturday I was in the car and on the road a little after 8am to drive to Ottery St Mary for a meeting of the South West Quilters. I have a wonderful collection of antique quilts and on Saturday some of them came out to play as I was asked to do a talk about them.
They had the very talented Hannah Wisdom as their speaker in the morning and my talk was in the afternoon.
Talking to them afterwards, and letting them see the quilts close up and in person, it was a joy to see how much they had enjoyed hearing about and seeing them all. No photos of any of that, sorry.

Then it was time to pack everything up and get on the road again, this time to Plymouth for the South West Wedding Awards, held at the Crowne Plaza hotel.
I was thrilled to win a Highly Commended award as an outstanding celebrant.

Late to bed, but up again on Sunday morning and on the road again to the Lands End Hotel. What a little gem of a hotel it is, and my goodness, the views! I was part of an evening styled photo shoot with a group of the most amazing and talented wedding suppliers and a gorgeous couple whose real wedding is next year, lots of ideas for them to steal.

I can't wait to see the photos and share them with you.

Finally home at 8:30pm. Wine, food, then bed.

Thrilled to win a highly commended award at the South West Wedding Awards at the Crowne Plaza in Plymouth tonight. And congratulations to Sabine of Perfect Day Ceremonies for winning the award. More photos to follow.
Thanks to Thomas Hare for taking the photo, I'd have had to take a selfie otherwise, and that would not have turned out well.

I promise these were not both for me! πŸ˜… I was waiting for my lovely couple to come back up to the ceremony room after their confetti. Truly. But there's always a photographer around when you least suspect it. πŸ“Έ

What a great afternoon at the Polurrian hotel wedding fair yesterday.
Lots of really lovely couples to meet and chat with, and some really lovely suppliers to meet and chat with when I had the chance.
I had my flu and covid jabs on Friday morning and was definitely feeling a little sorry for myself, and as I started the afternoon with a sore throat, I was amazed and feeling lucky to still have a voice at the end of it.😊

The last two weddings for the summer on my calendar were both stunners, but the weather....
When I woke on the 21st, I wanted to just roll over and go back to sleep. Definitely not an option. There was thunder and lightning, hail and heavy wind and rain. Not great for an outdoor wedding. Thank goodness I had loaded my car the night before.
As I drove to the King Harry ferry to cross the river into the Roseland, the rain settled to a drizzle and the wind dropped, And by the time I arrived at the beautiful Lamorran Gardens, it was starting to clear up.
The ceremony was beautiful, the bride was beautiful, and you could really see just how in love the couple are. And just as L and T were saying their vows, the first glimmer of sunshine appeared. And they walked back down the aisle in full sun and under blue skies. Perfect timing.
The second wedding day, on the 28th, started with blue skies and sunshine, no wind and enough warmth for me to wear a summer dress. Anyone who knows me knows that I really hate feeling the cold, so I loved being able to do this at the end of September. The day before had been cold and windy, and the day after was awful with heavy rain and strong winds. How lucky were we to have the one day of glorious sunshine for their ceremony, and for the whole day?
And yes, the ceremony was beautiful, the bride was beautiful, and you could see just how much in love H and T are.
The ceremony was held in what will become the groom's father's studio, a former chapel, which had windows on all 4 walls so the sun streamed in and lit up the whole space.
For me, closing out my summer weddings like this was perfect. L and T, and H and T, (not the same T!!!), thank you so much for choosing me to be your Celebrant.

Yesterday's festival inspired wedding for H and S. Bright sunshine and a few clouds, but no rain and we were sheltered from the wind. Perfect. Later additions to the festival vibes were a live band, vw van photo booth and a glitter bar. And yes, it was another outing for my pink jacket.

My gorgeous couple who came all the way from Australia for their wedding today at St Nicholas' Chapel in St Ives.
It was fabulous, full of laughter and so much love. But damn, it was windy. ☺️
Thank you G and C for following your original celebrant's recommendation and booking me when they were sadly unable to do your ceremony. 2 weeks isn't much time, but we certainly pulled it off.

It's about 5 months early. I know the summer has been pretty useless, this proves it. πŸ™„
