Very excited to have some beautiful pieces by a local potter sharing my space in the gallery at Greatcombe Gardens this weekend. Open Garden Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th June, 1-5pm for the National Garden Scheme charities.

Arum lilies and primula vialii are looking stunning so I grabbed a couple of photos to share! Also, we were very honoured to have had a professional garden photographer here at Greatcombe Gardens yesterday, and looking forward to seeing what he managed to capture. very dedicated, professional and charming! Thank you Mark. The gardens are open again for NGS visitors this coming weekend 15th & 16th June 1-5pm.

We are open again next weekend!!! Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th June 2024. 1-5pm. The garden changes every month and this is the time of the roses, the last of the wisteria the beginning of the herbaceous borders and some late flowering Rhododendron. Benches to rest awhile and vistas to drink in, Devonshire Cream Tea to be enjoyed, come and support the wonderful charities that the National Garden Scheme raises money for.

We are open again for the three days over the Whitsun Bank Holiday - 25th, 26th & 27th May 2024, 1-5pm. Rhododendrons, azaleas, hostas, Acer's, arums, wisteria and much, much more to enjoy. Homemade Cream Teas and cakes, plant stall and artist's gallery all to enjoy.

Sorry for the delay in posting this, but just had to acknowledge what a wonderful first open garden weekend we had on behalf of with so many great visitors. Got through lots of cakes and scones, along with tub loads of clotted cream and jars of strawberry jam. A sure sign that fun was had by all.

The garden is ready and waiting for our NHS visitors over the weekend. The weather has been gorgeous despite dire warnings of thunder storms! I've been cooking up a load of homemade tea time goodies including these rhubarb and ginger muffins!

The Aralias have given so much this year - structure, form, texture, colour, and interest. Now, in the last of their seasonal cycle, we have the seed heads. The garden is slowly closing down.

I decided to extend my tiny pond into something a little larger, so dug this one alongside. Autumn is the perfect time to carefully divide pond plants, being sure to keep all the roots and muddy stuff underwater, for all the creatures that are over wintering there.

Never really appreciated how spectacular dahlias could be! I've picked these beauties to save them from the wind and rain today, and they are lending a touch of regal majesty to the kitchen.

Time to bring in all the Angel Wings, strip them down to make a miriad of cuttings - over 40 pots - so that each cutting makes a gorgeous healthy plant when planted out in the borders next year. Excess plants will be for sale to early visitors next May!

Love, love, love a hydrangea!! I have identified over 25 varieties at Greatcombe that I've collected over the years, including Limelight, P*e Wee, Dark Angel, Glam Rock, Annabel, Ayesha, Invincible - paniculatas, mopheads and lacecaps.

Whist doing a bit of gravel weeding today in my swimsuit, as it's still quite warm, it started to rain, so I suppose in modern parlance, I was WILD SHOWERING!!! 😀 In our rural childhoods, we swam in local lakes and rivers, little knowing what an exotic activity it was. We called it swimming, but now it's called WILD swimming!!!! Seriously? 😂 🤣 😆

I'm so enjoying this small hydrangea, which I believe is H. P*e Wee. It looks like delicate lace in the dappled shade of the Liquid Amber tree.

Turkish cap Lily - 'Black Beauty' continues to amaze. Look at the size of them!! When they finish flowering, I'll put them in the borders and replant the pots with new varieties in the autumn.
