COLORSTEEL Awards 2023
We first started to plan these awards back in 2019 with the awards due to take place in 2020. But covid had other ideas!

Fast forward through multiple changes and revised dates - we delivered these awards in October 2023.

We are thrilled with the final outcome; transforming the iconic Auckland Town Hall into a modern futuristic location for the night.

Highlights:

Opening Act - The fabulous Annie Crummer ft Kapa Haka Team from Haka The Legend.

Video mapping the historic organ (thanks to our content creator Brad Brown) with a stunning bespoke video graphics package backing kiwi favorite, Jason Kerrison and the NZ Drumline

Winners content filmed live throughout Aotearoa - thanks for our mates at Perpetua Productions for flying around the country to capture everything we needed

We’ve booked these amazing guys on many of our events, over many years, and making them the headliner-band to perform with the Auckland Symphony Orchestra at the SeePort Sunset Concert we produced and directed for a few years.

Their ability to get the crowds up on their feet and to keep them on their feet, is a testament to how awesome they are. We love White Chapel Jak to bits and can’t wait to have them back again on future events 🥳🥳🥳

Our biggest and most honest, heartfelt gratitude to our long term supporters who continue making this beautiful and crazy musical journey possible.

Saturday night we were super excited to be back at Spark Arena playing as part of NZ Property Council Awards night. This event always feels super glamorous. An arena show, amazing staging, lighting, super lovely clients, a lush green room and a chance to go on stage with a ‘suped up’ WCJ lineup of nine musicians!! An absolute blast, privilege and buzz to be a part of again and we sincerely thank Colin Ennor and all of the superstar team at I Want Orange. Not just for your seamless running of such high level events but also for your inviting us yet again to be a part of this incredible night. We’ve taken a magical ride through some seriously mindblowing experiences with this outstanding events company and Saturday was yet another. Thank you from the bottom of tour hearts team, seriously grateful t you all.

Massive shoutout of aroha to the musical geniuses Thabani Gapara, Christian Mausiaa and Gail Tipene. Your limitless talent, soulful sounds and beautifully radiant personalities bring nothing but joy and sunshine but also ….you just make us sound soooo flash! We love and appreciate you all.

12 yrs ago, today! We produced and delivered the first major showcase events for Air New Zealand in Beijing and Shanghai. Building bespoke stages, custom built the front of a Marae - complete with traditional carvings, traveled with AirNZ Kapa Haka group, kiwi band Midnight youth, NZ chefs, NZ wine and cuisine served throughout. The purpose of the event was to highlight New Zealand to frontline travel agents. The event was deemed a huge success

Yesterday marked the end of a massive roadshow with Xero NZ! Together, we travelled 28 locations across New Zealand meeting with partners and small businesses.

The tiny home, blessed by Ngāti Whātua and given the name ‘Whare Iti’ was a special bespoke custom build. Every detail was considered from scratch, to create a welcoming place for Xero customers and leads to gather and learn. Over 7,000kms traveled and running off its own complete solar energy power system.

The ‘tiny edition’ Roadshow started in June in Auckland and ended in Matamata today! The tour included hosting 56 events across the campaign at local restaurants, bars and cafes to support their businesses.

We are incredibly proud of the team involved from IWO, including all the staff from XERO who manned the activation, presented at the events and the management team who worked closely with us. Signing off Roadshow 2022 ‘Tiny Edition’ ❤️

Last week we had the pleasure of delivering our 16th annual TVNZ Showcase. This would be the largest by attendance numbers and scale of production, held at Spark Arena for the very first time. We would like to thank our wonderful clients in the Trade Marketing team - Kath, Gabs, Brooke, Grace and Amanda. Also to the incredible content creator, Ben 🙌🏽 it take a huge amount of time to bring this event together and none of which would be possible without our incredible suppliers 📸

Congrats to Dame Valerie Adams on announcing her retirement from Shot Put. Dame Val has done us all so proud, her achievements are staggering.

Dame Valerie is the only person to receive an Olympic Gold Medal Ceremony in Aotearoa New Zealand and we were lucky enough to produce and direct the live event here in Auckland some ten years ago! Check out the highlight reel.

That’s a wrap on 2021 for us… what a year it has been for everyone, but especially for our battered industry! However, we weathered the storm and managed to squeeze in some pretty awesome events from working with Prada, Challanger of Records Americas Cup, SKYCITY on a summer garden activation, Ports of Auckland SeePort concert, TVNZ launch events for Popstars, RuPaul’s drag race and showcase, incentive trips in Queenstown, coca-cola amatil long service awards, Xero Talks, PCNZ Awards online, and many more

We love creating, producing, directing and sometimes, simply delivering these events the ‘orange’ way. We have so much gratitude to our wonderful clients and dedicated suppliers, who without, these events wouldn’t be possible.

We look forward to 2022 and wish everyone a safe and happy summer holidays

What an incredible few months we have had.

One thing COVID has taught us is to be prepared for anything and everything… plan, replan, rethink and action… replan and reschedule!

Over the last couple of weeks we have had three major events unable to proceed due to government restrictions on gatherings… but we did manage to pivot and deliver some world class online broadcasts using some of the best in the business!

Property Council NZ Property Industry Awards -

The largest annual gala awards in NZ. With over 1550 guests booked for this years awards ceremony, we were unlucky to be caught up in level 4 lockdown, 3 days before the event was due to go live. Thankfully we had already prepared ourselves for this by pre filming the awards ceremony (in the hope that we wouldn’t need to use it, like we did in 2020, where we also did a back up filming and thankfully didn’t have to use it and managed to hold the event live with over 1550 people attending)

This week we broadcast the online version to a huge audience watching from home and the office! Well done to PWC Tower, Commerical Bay, for winning the supreme award for 2021 🎉

Next up was TVNZ Showcase.

One of our favorite events of the year and another causality of level 4 lockdown - through the incredible vision of our client, Kath and an awesome team of producers, designers, suppliers - TVNZ Showcase was delivered virtually for the first time, ever.

Lastly - Xero National Roadshow, another COVID causality, was filmed over three days and broadcast live (today) from Spark Arena.

COVID protocol has meant that the work to film safely and broadcast events safely has meant a ton of extra work and something I hope we can move on from and return to in-person, live events!

These three events alone have feed our industry some much needed cashflow and we couldn’t do it without our clients, incredible clients. I would like to thank our clients for their incredible ongoing support because without them, our industry is struggling ! Because of them we have managed to spread the loving support far and wide -

We are about to kick off some major online broadcast events, and along with our strict H&S protocols, we will make these events as safe as can be. Tonight, I Want Orange and a huge army of suppliers were due to deliver the Property Industry Awards for our incredible client at Property Council New Zealand.

However, Covid-19 had other plans with a snap lockdown throwing 8months of plans out the window and contingency plans kicking-in and managing to postpone these prestigious awards to a later date (like we had to do in 2020).

We wanted to put a huge shout-out to all of our amazing suppliers, who without them, these awards wouldn't be possible.

Checkout the highlight reel from 2020 - this was a little toned down, due to Covid-19, but we still managed to get over 1450 guests during a time that New Zealand was Covid free

Here are just some of the army of suppliers to takes to deliver the largest annual gala awards dinner in New Zealand (and mostly likely the World at the moment!)

We’ve loved producing and delivering SeePort Festival for Ports of Auckland over the past eight years, in fact we have been delivering SeePort for much longer, prior to the event evolving into the Festival it is know as today.

We’ve loved every minute and can’t wait to start working on the ten year anniversary event in 2023 ❤️🎉❤️

(but the silver lining is our Event Director will have his first Auckland Anniversary weekend back in more than a decade!) 🤩

After eight successful years of welcoming Aucklanders behind the red fence to have a first-hand experience of Auckland’s port at SeePort, we are saddened to have to cancel the festival for 2022.

For nearly a decade, SeePort Festival has been entertaining Aucklanders on Captain Cook wharf every Auckland Anniversary Weekend, with informative experiences about the maritime industry, tours of the port, carnival rides, concerts, and one of Auckland’s best fireworks displays. 🎡 🎇

We’ve loved being able to show our operational footprint to provide a venue for public events. However, COVID-19 has thrown us another curve-ball. It has hit our finances while at the same time creating huge cargo demand on the wharves we use for SeePort. We need to prioritise the needs of the businesses that rely on us, especially as so many of them have been hit hard by the pandemic. That’s why we’ve made the hard decision to cancel next year’s SeePort Festival.

But don’t worry, we’ll be back! We expect SeePort Festival to make a grand return in 2023. This event has been a highlight for many people — from our employees to the Auckland public. Therefore, we can’t wait to open up our gates for you again in the near future!

We were privileged to work with Prada/ Challenger of Record AC36, for the last 6months. It was a very special event to be involved with and lighting the SkyTower and projecting the Prada Cup logo onto the tower prior each race day, was an incredible highlight !! Here was our final dibble with a beautiful full page farewell to New Zealand in the NZ Herald ❤️
