The Cactus Drive-In was the first drive-in theatre in New Mexico. Opening on September 26, 1947, “Smokey” featuring Fred MacMurray and Anne Baxter would be its debut film. CinemaScope and magnetic sound, as well as an upgraded larger screen were added to the Cactus in 1954. Originally located near Yale Blvd and Kathryn Ave, the single-screen theatre offered 776 parking spaces, and would show its final film on September 28, 1975.
