Louise and Eddie Adair owned Cottage Florist from 1956 to 1976. My mother, Mable Dunn purchased the business from her aunt and uncle in 1976 and changed the name to Specialty Flowers and Gifts. This picture represents a changing of hands as my Aunt Louise is teaching my mom how to direct a wedding on her own.

The dress and the bride are beautiful! But sadly we don’t have a name to go with the picture. We believe it was taken at Centerville Church of Christ. We would love to find out who the bride is if anyone knows her!

I’d like to share a little history with you of how Specialty Weddings came to be. My Great Aunt Louise and her husband “Uncle Eddie” Adair opened a flower shop in their home on Nall Avenue in 1956. They had gifts for sale, made flowers for birthdays, get wells, funerals, and of course weddings! I can remember walking in and smelling that flower shop smell.

For weddings they would decorate the church and reception area, make the flowers, and direct the ceremony making sure everyone knew what to do and where to be. Over their 20 years of ownership they did numerous weddings, receptions, anniversaries, parties, and more. I would love to hear from you if Cottage Florist designed flowers for your wedding or party! *Some of you may also remember the amazing craftsmanship my Uncle Eddie displayed with his styrofoam pieces. People, animals, cars! He even made an entire circus which was on display at the Hickman County Public Library for many years.
