X Wave Experimental Music and Sound Art Festival
Presented by the Interdisciplinary Practices and Emerging Forms Program at the University of Houston. This program is supported through the Innovation Grants program of the the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts, which is funded in part by the Houston endowment, Inc. The X Wave Festival of Experimental Music and Sound Art is a new forum for
sharing creative research and a platform for experimental interaction, collaboration, and performance. Participants present their work in discussions and performances early in the festival then collaborate with others for the closing performances. The X Wave festival celebrates the “what if” factor found in a growing community of musicians and visual artists. It is for both audiences and sound artists who ask questions that extend beyond traditional practice.
“It’s like there was food so fresh, you couldn’t write a menu for it.” The attending “sound chefs” include Daniel Day, Monome, William Walker Conlin, Misha Penton, Hsin-Jung Tsai, Toni Valle, Art Gottschalk, Thomas Helton, Spike the Percussionist, Paul Connolly, and hosts Aaron Bielish and John Reed. Performances will take place April 2nd through the 5th at the University of Houston’s School of Art and Khon’s Wine and Art Bar.
