If you are looking for a budget-friendly way to elope in the smoky mountains, keep the focus on simple.

Get hitched in the smokies without breaking the bank:

1. Get married on the deck of your cabin: Book a rental that has a great view and let the officiant come to you! There are so many cabins with amazing mountain views!

2. DIY flowers & cake: Hit the local grocery store for a simple bouquet and cake from the bakery. Some in-season wildflowers will look beautiful with a simple ribbon, and the bakery will usually throw just married on there for you!

3. Record or livestream the ceremony on your phone: We know everyone wants to come to your wedding. This is an easy way to share your day and you can celebrate back home in your own way!

⛰💍 Planning a breathtaking mountain wedding? Make sure the altitude doesn't steal your breath away! ⛰😓

Many people who travel to the smoky mountains end up feeling dizzy, nauseous and out of sorts while they are here. It's most likely because of the difference in elevation from where they live! If you, your wedding party and/or your guests are "Flat-Landers" and not used to being in elevation, follow these tips to avoid feeling lousy on your big day:

👉 **Acclimate Early** Arrive at your mountain destination a few days in advance to give your body time to adjust.
👉 **Stay Hydrated** Drink extra water before and during your stay to keep altitude sickness at bay.
👉 **Rest Well** Sit down if you start feeling off and have a small snack with a glass of water. Get plenty of sleep to help your body cope with the higher elevation.
👉 **Eat Carbs** It helps. Don't question it, just enjoy the fact someone is telling you to eat carbs.
👉 **Avoid Alcohol** (I know you are going to ignore this one) Try skipping the celebratory drinks until after the ceremony. Alcohol will worsen altitude symptoms.

You will need to go to the Gatlinburg office if you plan to pick up your marriage license on Friday or Pigeon Forge on Saturday.

Mark your calendars 📆 . The Sevier County Courthouse and the Sheriff's Administrative Offices will be closed to the public on Friday, May 17th for staff training and preparation of the Bloomin' BBQ Music & Food Festival.

All offices will open at the normal time on Monday, May 20th.
