What's your favorite way to celebrate the end of a year and the beginning of another?

Are you a big partier for New Year's Eve or a home in your pjs and asleep by 10 kinda person?

I'm a little in between and it depends on whether we are with family or not. I'll miss our minute to win it games with friends and family this year but being home with my own little family and hanging out in my comfies sounds pretty great too.

This handsome guy is my brother that's closest in age to me. I got to spend a few days last week with him and his cute little family. It's so fun to see your siblings as amazing fathers and husbands. All three of my brothers became dads this year and it melts my heart to see them in these roles. Even though I'm the oldest in my family, I still learn so much from them all the time.

What is something good that has come out of this time of quarantine for you and/or your family?

We have been able to get to know some of our neighbors so much better than we did before. We aren't going going going constantly and so in the afternoons we've just gone out front to let the kids play and get some energy out. Almost every single time at least one or two other neighbors come out and the kids play and the parents chat. It's been so great to socialize in this small way and get to know the people that live so close.

Are your kids going back to in person school?

I was so hoping that my girls would get to go to school in person for Kindergarten. They were both so incredibly excited about going to school and making new friends and have a new teacher. They are a little crushed that they will be doing school at home for now but I'm trying to pump them up (and myself) about it.

I'm pretty sure this little guy needs to be a **er model! Isn't this little picnic set up with Peter Rabbit the cutest?! I had so much fun playing with this little guy for his one year session! He was all smiles and was ready to bust open that ge**er juice.

Wedding's look so different these days don't they?! I know so many clients, friends and families that have postponed, cancelled or completely changed their wedding plans this year. I know for some people it's not quite the grand party they dreamed of, but for others, the small intimate weddings have been more special than they could've imagined.

In all the craziness happening in our world right now, I find peace in knowing that God is still here. Getting to take newborn photos during this pandemic has been a comfort to me. Life is still happening, creation and love are still happening. Let’s hold on to that.

Hello! I’m sooo excited to be back on this account and reconnecting with so many friends here! I’ve been completely MIA for months now. 😬

I decided back in May to just take a week off from posting and it felt really good and what I really needed, so that week turned into a little over 2 months. 🤷🏼‍♀️ It was time that I needed to be more present for my kids, my husband and MYSELF! I am grateful that I could take that time and do what I felt was best for me and my family.
And now feels like a great time to get back on and keep doing what I love! I’ve missed you all!
And just because I wasn’t posting doesn’t mean I haven’t been busy shooting! I can’t wait to show you some fun shoots I’ve done recently!

I’ve taken a little bit of a break from social media for the past few weeks. From posting and scrolling. It kind of surprised me actually that I would go as long as I did but I just didn’t feel the need to get on.
🤷🏼‍♀️
I’m grateful for the break though because it has allowed me to be more present with my kids and husband, more attentive to my home and given me a little extra time for myself to reflect and really get a good idea of what I want my days to look like. It’s been good for my soul.

Don’t worry though, I’ve been plenty busy doing front porch photos and I even got to sneak in a newborn session with the sweetest little boy. So stay tuned because good stuff is a comin’.

Have you had a favorite snack during quarantine that’s different from what you normally would reach for?

We always love chips and salsa but don’t usually have it in our house for some reason. But it’s been a staple the past month or two since we’ve been in quarantine. We’ve tried a few different salsas but our favorite chips are always Juanita’s! If you haven’t tried them, do it now! They’re so good!

Mother's Day Is coming up so soon! Like in just a few days! How do you like to celebrate?

I love to be able to sleep in, have some peaceful time to myself and then just spend the day with my family hanging out. I also love to be treated with some pretty flowers.

I had big plans for some beautiful mommy and me mini sessions but obviously can’t do them since our stay home order has been extended here in Washington. But once I can get back to work taking your photos again, I’ll still make sure to do some mommy and me sessions even though Mother’s Day will be passed. Stay tuned for those details! Do you know how important your family photos are?

This beautiful mama contacted me last week and asked if I would be willing to take some family pictures for her as soon as possible. She had received some scary news about her health and wanted to make sure that her family had photos with her in them. The very next day I was driving almost an hour to meet them in their amazing neighborhood to take their family photos.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Your children, your spouse, your family, they want photos of you. That’s what they will have to pass on to future generations, to remember the stories and the love that you have for them. Don’t wait. They love you how you are right now and will cherish those photos. You are perfect in their eyes.

I’m so grateful I was able to take these photographs for this amazing woman and her family. It was such a special experience for me and a good reminder of why I do what I do. ❤️

Do you feel like your kids have grown closer during this time of isolation?

I'm so grateful that my girls have each other. They have played so well together during this time and even though they have missed their friends, I know that their relationship has been strengthened. They’ve even been so fun with Cooper and including them in all their games. Maybe because he’ll do pretty much whatever they tell him to! 😆🤷🏼‍♀️

So, how was your weekend? Do anything exciting?

I went to JoAnn’s all by myself to pick up some things for flat lays and back drops! 🙌🏻 😂 But I waited in line for 25 minutes just to get in the store. Then they didn’t have exactly what I was looking for and as I wandered around in my mask 😷 I started to feel a little claustrophobic so I got out as fast as I could. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Super exciting stuff over here. am I right?!

Everyone keeps talking about when things go back to “normal”... like, “what’s the first thing you’re going to do when things are normal again?” Or “I can’t wait until this all goes back to normal...”
But my question is, “what is “normal” going to look like after this?”
🤷🏼‍♀️
I have a hard time believing that everything will be as it was a few months ago. There isn’t a person on this planet that this pandemic hasn’t effected in one way or another. We’ve all been changed in some way. For good or for bad.
What will we do differently? How will we act when we can once again shake hands or, even better, hug someone? (I imagine that one is going to be a little awkward at first lol.) Will we be more kind to everyone? Will we be more careful or more careless? Will we slow down our (what used to be) busy schedules or pick up the pace even more? Will we buy more things or less things? How will our attitudes and outlooks have changed? What else will be changed? My husband is sure the medical world will do business differently and even airlines will change their standards. I’m so curious to see what “normal” will be after all this.

Remember last week when I said I was grateful for all this extra time I was going to have during quarantine to work on things I wanted to do?! Ha!

I have 3 small children at home and a husband who still physically goes to work everyday (which I'm incredibly grateful for his secure job). My days have not changed much except for the fact that we are all trapped inside with no friends to play with us and trips being cancelled. It's starting to wear on us all a little. As Naomi said the other day, "why is this virus taking so long!?"

Working with other passionate women is one of my most favorite things ever. Women that are passionate about what they do, motivated by growth and seek community with other like-minded women so they can have support in what they’re working to achieve but also so that they can cheer other women on as well.

Whether it’s a stay-at-home mom doing the best she can to raise good humans, work-from-home moms trying to balance business and family life, or moms that work outside the home to take care of themselves and their families. And all the women in between! There is passion in what we do and why we do it.

We all wear so many different hats. And most of us try to wear them all at the same time. But we don’t have to. We can take a few off. It doesn’t mean we have to let them go. We can put them on again later. But we don’t have to be all the things for all the people all the time.

Last week I walked around my neighborhood and did photos for about a dozen families. It filled my heart in so many ways. It was so great to see and talk to other people outside of my own home. It was also incredible to meet these people that are my neighbors but most I didn't know before. And now I would consider all of them friends. And I only spent a few minutes with them standing at least 10 feet away. I can't wait to see all my new friends again. Until then, I have some pretty fun photos of them to enjoy!

In my freshman year of college you could stop by the cafeteria for a sack lunch on the go and I’d always get the PBJ. They put two sandwiches in the bag so I would eat one for lunch and save the other one for later.

There was a day that I just wasn’t in the mood to study and my bestie , who was always better and studying than I was, bribed me and said we’d each study in our own rooms for an hour and then we’d go do something else. I agreed and sat down at my desk to study. I opened my backpack and saw my extra PBJ sitting there on top and instead of pulling out my books I made my sandwich and ate it.

She came back an hour later and I hadn’t studied one bit because that dang peanut butter and jelly sandwich had distracted me.

I feel like I’m on a roller coaster that’s never-ending. I’m sure I’m not the only one.

We’re all having our own highs and lows and twists and turns through all this.

I started last week on some high points with my hands in the air 🙌🏻 excited for what the future could bring. And by the end of the week I was holding fast to the lap bar, eyes closed, feeling nervous and unsure as my roller coaster threw me for a loop. And today I’m on the rise again.

This is probably a bumpy ride for many of us. Bumpier for some than others. But I’m realizing that as I focus on the good I see and take time to feel gratitude, everything is less scary and more hopeful.

My hope is that we can all come out of this with our hands in the air, excited and ready to take on the world.

This quote felt incredibly appropriate for today. One, because I sat and painted rainbows with my kids today since it’s St. Patrick’s Day. And two, because these are times of doubt and feels like a storm that we are weathering through.

Yesterday did feel like all rainbows and sunshine ☀️ Today, does not. But I have had several good reminders that there will always be a rainbow. 🌈 I’ll hang on to that.

A week or so ago I announced my spring mini-sessions for April 18th. Well, apparently I was not thinking clearly because I soon realized that the 18th is my baby's 2nd birthday!!! How could I forget!?

But have no fear, they will still happen! Just a week later on April 25th!

We'll be out in open nature so we can keep our distance from other people if still necessary at that time. But as it gets closer I will reevaluate and reschedule if necessary. I know that these are weird and scary times for all of us but I also know that we grow and become stronger through trials like this. And we still want to capture and remember the goodness and the love that surrounds us daily. So don't let this opportunity pass you by.
