Despite all the rain, our students had so much fun at MISD Band Camp last week! It was so sweet to watch them make memories while playing their instruments, playing games, eating popsicles, and going to Hawaiian Falls! 🌴☀️🎼

We are so proud of these 3 awesome musicians: Hyuk-Ju, Ify, and Giuliana. They represented SJMS in the MISD Middle School Concerto Competition, and they each had a stellar performance. We can't wait to see what these 8th graders accomplish at McKinney North next year!

Congratulations to all of these students for being selected as Outstanding Musicians by the judges at Solo Contest last week! In addition, Giuliana Collecchi, Ify Chukwuma, and Hyuk-Ju Yi were selected to represent Scott Johnson in the MISD Concerto Competition on May 13. We're so proud of all of these fine musicians!

Today, our Wind Ensemble got the amazing opportunity to meet JaRod Hall, the composer of one of the pieces they are working on! Students got to ask him questions about the process of writing the piece and what it was like to be a composer. They also got to perform the piece for him and get some feedback. Such a cool experience!

Students that attended Summer Band are invited to join us for the 6th grade Meet the Teacher Pep Rally tomorrow! Students need to wear their orange 22-23 band t-shirts with pants/shorts. Please drop off in the back of the school and have your child enter through the CAFETERIA doors at 1:30 PM.

SJMS Summer Band is this Thursday and Friday! The camp will be in the Scott Johnson MS Band Hall and students will need to enter through door #9. The camp is preparation for the upcoming 6th Grade Meet the Teacher Event (More info coming soon).
Students need to bring their instrument/drum pad & stick bag. Please make sure that your child’s instrument is in good working condition, and they have the supplies needed to play. The students will receive new binders at camp.
Looking forward to seeing our students who can be there!

An extra congratulations to the 3 students who were selected to represent SJMS in the MISD Middle School Concerto Competition this upcoming Monday! They will be competing against students from the other middle schools in McKinney, and we are so proud of them!

Congratulations to both our Symphonic Band and Concert Band for fantastic performances at UIL this week! Both bands received straight 1s both on stage and in sight-reading. This is the first year in our school's history that this has happened!
