Founded in 1882 Czech and Slovak Sokol Minnesota is affiliated with American Sokol, which grew out of an international movement founded in 1862 by Dr. Miroslav Tyrs. Hall at 383 Michigan Street in Saint Paul has been our home since its construction in 1887, and the focal point for our activities in Saint Paul. It was declared a National and State Historic Site in 1977, placed on the National Regis

ter of Historic Sites, and is the longest serving Czech-Slovak cultural center in the United States, as well as oldest theater and national hall in Minnesota. Czech & Slovak Sokol Minnesota welcomes all who share an interest in history, culture, gymnastics and good fellowship. You need not be Czech or Slovak to be a member. Hours and prices vary by event or program. Run entirely by volunteers, the C.S.P.S. Hall has no staff, nor is the building open on a regular schedule. Please call 651-290-0542 to use the hall.

Happy May Day!!! This maypole is part of a cultural exhibit made for @sokolminnesota 🇨🇿🇸🇰 that would of been displayed this weekend at the 88th Festival of Nations. Theme this year was “Real Stories, Real People, Our Minnesota Community”. Although the exhibit may not have been seen by festival goers this year, perhaps my neighbors might enjoy the change of scenery on their daily walks, on this first day of May.

We were all so good this year!

Before St. Nicholas, the Angel and the Devil came to visit the Children Holiday Party, children were telling Louise Wessinger how good they were this year. They all received a present from St. Nichoas! <3 But wait for the end of the video, you are going to laugh (and be impressed)! :-D

Čížečku, Čížečku by Carpatho-Rusyn Children

Carpatho-Rusyns, one of the many nationalities/ethnic groups that populated former Czechoslovakia, and their children folk dance group at Festival of Nations: the children dance to a very popular song in which they talk to a little bird, a siskin ('"čížek/čížeček"), asking it how are poppies sowed, how they grow (how do you take care of the them, how is the crop harvested, and how you eat it. :-) The later parts of the songs we will have on pictures for you..
