Louis Davidson was born on March 16th, 1912. In 1923 at age 11, he started studying with Max Schlossberg. By age 16 he was appointed Second Trumpet in the Cincinnati by Maestro Fritz Reiner. At age 23, he was chosen as the Solo Trumpet of the Cleveland Orchestra, Arthur Rodzinski conductor.

Mr. Davidson retired from the Cleveland Orchestra in 1958. Louis Davidson joined the faculty of Indiana University School of Music.
He was the author of two important books on trumpet performance. Trumpet Techniques is arguably one of the most important books on trumpet pedagogy. Trumpet Profiles, somewhat less known, is an exploration of musical influences, habits and equipment of the top trumpet players of his time (mid 20th century).

I had the honor of being able to study with him at IU (1979-82). I rarely have encountered such an articulate, well read and elegant musician in my life. He was demanding, yet patient in the same manner. His experiences and outlook on the musical arts were freely shared with his students.

End of the semester activities at SDSU.
Trumpet Studio Class Christmas blow-out, followed by Brass Chamber Music final concerts. I am very blessed to have such a large and active studio of Trumpet Scholars at SDSU. I am also very lucky to work with such outstanding colleagues; Eric Starr, Mike McCoy, Aaron Macalla, Karl Soukup, Kevin Esposito, Derek Cannon and Rachel Allen.

It's 7 am on Monday morning. SDSU Trumpet Scholars gather for warm up class. Today's subject are the concepts of Thibaud.

7:00 am Trumpet Warm Up class this morning. SDSU has a large studio of dedicated and focused trumpet scholars. I am so fortunate to work with these fine young performers.

Final Trumpet Studio Class on December 5th. A chance to to do a run through for all the trumpet scholars on their final jury repertoire. A big thank you to the collaborative pianists that assisted them this evening.

Big week for the brass studies at San Diego State University. On Monday December 5th we had our last Trumpet Studio Class, which featured run-through performances of all the Trumpet Scholars' final jury pieces. On Thursday December 8, was the brass chamber music recital featuring all the brass scholars!
