The Thomas family has been farming in the Snohomish Valley for well over 100 years. From generation to generation, we have farmed a wide variety of agriculture including; dairy, peas, strawberries, corn, grass, etc.
We continued to adapt to the ever-changing farming industry drastically over the last two decades. Our demand for cow manure began in 1987 when Marvin decided to start his first business Topsoils Northwest Inc. At this time Marvin and his brother Dennis Thomas had purchased the dairy farm (Thomas Farm Corp.) from their father Donald Thomas. Donald farmed his whole life in the valley growing anything from peas to strawberries. When the Thomas Brothers branched out from farming to the Topsoil business they had one important ingredient readily at their fingertips. The ability to source manure locally from their farm
separated Topsoil’s Northwest Inc. from competitors in Snohomish county. Marvin and Dennis were dairy farmers for many years (while operating the Topsoil Company simultaneously) until 2007 when they retired dairy production and replaced with raising beef cows. The milk price had dropped far below profitable margins forcing them out of the dairy business. With the Topsoil business growing the demand for manure still needed to be met.
We converted from raising beef cows to raising heifers for local farms who don't have the capacity to hold their cattle. We continue raising hephers to this day.
Candidly, during the recession period we struggled in the off-seasons. To compensate the fall
and winter months, Marvin Thomas made yet another innovative business idea, becoming the most impactful decisions for our family to date.
Remember the barn we mentioned used for dairy and cows? With the support of his brother
and co-owner Dennis Thomas, family, and friends, the 20,000-sq. ft. venue was transformed into a magnificent wedding and event site (known as Crossroads Weddings and Events).
Our mission was to create and maintain a venue that could be used for any event. Initially, the majority of events were weddings, typically held December though
August, and fall festivities, live during September and October. Thomas Family Farm was created to be the ultimate corn maze and pumpkin patch. We were the first farm to bring Zombie Paintball to Snohomish County. We were also one of the first pumpkin farms to serve beer and wine in Snohomish county. This farm has grown to be so much more than just a “pumpkin patch”. Thomas Family farm now hosts events for all ages and audiences to enjoy including, Movie Nights by Own the Night Productions, NW Offroad Jeep Expo in the Corn & Mulch Piles, Zombie Paintball, distillery/beer tastings, and more. Our love for hosting is showing through the increasing list of activities added each year.
We hope to continue to grow with our communities and provide memories to the families attending our events, just as our family has made memories creating them.
Thank you for the ongoing support to those who started a new tradition with Thomas Family Farm.
