Ingrid Klimke’s Masterclass in the Wine Country drew 700-plus enthusiasts this past weekend for a fantastic, fun weekend of learning from the 5-time German Olympic eventer and international dressage rider.

Ingrid’s love of the horse was palpable all weekend and she shared Classical dressage and training principles, the multiple benefits of cavalletti work and much more.

Wonderful work by Kelly Artz and her organizing team at Entrigue Consulting.

And all the riders and horses were amazing and it was great to see Galway Downs gussied up again just a month after the Eventing Championships.

Taren Hoffos, Grace Walker and Chloe Smyth represented the eventing contingent very well today in the Ingrid Klimke Masterclass. Cavaletti have multiple training applications, especially for eventers. Turns, quick-coming next jumps, extending and collecting strides were all skills that can be built with cavalettis, saving wear and tear on the horse.

Meet your 2023 USEA Area VI Championships, including Britt Sabbah's Delilah 111, who logged a 16.7 in dressage (from Axel Steiner!) en route to winning the Senior Starter Championships.

We had 14 Area VI Championship divisions conclude in the gussied-up Grand Ring Arena yesterday. “I think for our first attempt we knocked it out of the park,” said Andrea Pfeiffer, Area VI Chairman and Area VI Council member.

Congratulations to all! It was our honor to host you!

Wearing her brand new Team USA pinque coat, Liz Halliday and Cooley Nutcracker earned the USEF CCI4*-L National title by winning the Defender CCI4*-L. California-based Australian Bec Braitling and Caravaggio II were overall 2nd, and Tommy Greengard and Joshuay MBF debuted at the level to finish overall 3rd, and 2nd in the National champs, followed by fellow US rider Emilee Libby and Tosca. Thank you Sherry Stewart for capturing these magic moments.

Auburn Excell Brady and BSP Boudica maintained their lead in the Dechra Equine CCI1*-L and Area V Young Rider Champs contenders, Scarlett Pienado and Shadow Inspector, stayed in close contention just .4 of a point behind. Sitting third is another contender in the USEF Eventing Young Rider Championships, presented by USEA -- Area VII's Harper Padgett and Cooley Starship.

The standings are close in this division, too, so tune into RideOnVideo Saturday at 10:45 to see who takes the win and how that affects the hotly contested Young Rider Champs!

Cross-country had far less effect on the USEF CCI2*-L National Championships. In a great glimpse of the US’s eventing future, contenders in the USEF Eventing Young Riders Championships, presented by USEA, dominated dressage to occupy the first five rungs. After cross-country, they held four of the top five spots, including the top with USEA Area VI’s Sarah Ross and Fernhill Heart Throb maintaining their lead in the Pro Series Equine CCI2*-L . A double clear run left them on their impressive 25 dressage score before Saturday’s show jumping finale.

Area VII’s Hanni Sreenan and Ebenholtz were also double clear, to edge from 3rd to 2nd in the standings, and Area VI’s Molly Duda and Carlingfords Hes a Clover moved up from 4th to 3rd by adding nothing to their 29.8.

The USEF CCI2*-L National Championships comes to a surely exciting conclusion Saturday, starting at 12:45. The leader, Sarah, has time faults to spare, but otherwise it’s very tight through the top 10. Tune into to Ride On Video if you can’t come in person.

“Brave, careful and scope for days” helped Cooley Nutcracker stay atop the USEF CCI4*-L National Championship, after a cross-country trek that knocked silly the post-dressage standings. Starting late in the 12-horse field, Elisabeth Halliday didn’t have to press for time because 5 other pairs were eliminated in the earlier going, including herself on Shanroe Cooley.

Bec Braitling and Caravaggio II cashed in considerable European summer mileage to come home with only time faults, for a vault from the 10th seed to the 2nd. And, CCI4*-L first-timers Tommy Greengard and Joshuay MBF prioritized accuracy to move into 3rd before Saturday’s show jumping.

Liz admits to being in unfamiliar territory with 5 rails in hand going into show jumping. “I think I’ve gone all year without even a time fault in hand -- maybe at the AECs – let alone a rail in hand.” But she’s not backing off her plan to “give him a nice ride and to finish well and strong” for this 9-year-old Irish Sport Horse she describes as “world class. A horse for the future.”

The Defender CCI4*-L concludes Saturday at 4:45 pm in a sure-to-be-packed Grand Prix Arena.

3* Update -- Three pairs with flawless efforts over Clayton Fredericks’ tough Adequan CCI3*-L cross-country moved themselves up into a tight top three going into Saturday’s show jumping. Canada’s Sabrina Glaser and Cooley Mr. Murphy stayed on their 32 dressage score to take the lead. Also double clear were the USA’s Megan McIver and Elle and Area VI CCI3*-L Eventing Young Rider Championships contender, Molly Duda and Disco Traveler, now sitting 2nd and 3rd.

Sabrina said it has taken much of their 4-year partnership to learn to ride Cooley Mr. Murphy cross country. “I don’t tell him what to do, which is hard for a control freak like me! He was so smooth today and everything came up right out of stride. He was galloping strong right to the finish.”

Northern California professional Megan McIver was thrilled with the “small but mighty” Elle, owned and bred by Tally Chang.

The Adequan CCI3*-L finishes Saturday, starting at 3:05 pm, with show jumping in the Grand Prix Arena. Catch it on Ride On Video if you can’t make it in person!

Contenders in the USEF Eventing Young Riders Championship, presented by USEA, occupy the top 5 spots in the Pro Series Equine CCI2*-L before starting cross-country today at 12:15.

Area VI’s Sarah Ross and Fernhill Heart Throb lead the 40-horse field on a 25 score from judges Robyn Fisher and Sandy Phillips.

Area VI’s Gabriella Ringer and Get Wild sit second on a 25.5 and Area VII’s Hanna Sreenan and Ebenholtz are third on 28.8.

So, Area VI tops the leaderboard in the 2* at the moment, followed by Area VII.

Galway Downs and The Eventing Championships at Galway Downs are all grateful for the leadership and support we receive from CalFire and the incredible firefighters in battling the Highland Fire. We humbly honor what they do to keep our community safe.

The fire fighting teams that assemble to take on these fires are more concerned about the unpredictable fire conditions and their possible impacts than anyone and they made critical decisions to keep the fire from spreading. Thank you all for your unbelievable efforts 👏❤️🙌

The Canadian Young Riders are here!

Welcome, Mackenzie Hoffman from the Alberta High Performance Development Team

"I am 17 years old and from Tees. My horse, Creative Crossing, aka “CC” is a 2014 Off The Track Thoroughbred. His dam is Dover Crossing and his sire Creative Cause, bred by Heinz Joseph Steinmann.

I have been riding my whole life and started eventing at 8 years old. I have been part of the Alberta High Performance Development Team for the past 5 years - two of those seasons on my Warmblood Heathcliff competing at the Training level. He has now been passed on to my younger cousin.

In the fall of 2020 I purchased CC and he quickly caught on to his new job. In the fall of 2022, I had the opportunity to compete in Florida, and train with Canadian Olympian Kyle Carter. As well as compete in the USEF Eventing Young Rider Championships on team Alberta in the CCI-1*L division. This season we have been competing successfully at the EV105 (modified) level.

I am thrilled to be able to once again represent Alberta at the USEF Eventing Young Rider Championships, this year at Galway Downs in California. It means so much to be able to represent your province and country in a team event like the Championships, and I am so thankful for this opportunity!

Making terrific equipment based on saddle-making savvy and horsemanship knowledge is only part of Devoucoux’ process. Identifying the ideal saddle for each horse and rider’s individual physical characteristics, athletic pursuits and preferences is an equal priority. Then, it's fitting the saddle to both athletes’ needs.

Devoucoux's Estelle Maunmoury welcomes inquiries and the company has representatives around the country who can make in-person visits.
