The Matterhorn
The Matterhorn was established in 1963 by two Swiss brothers. It was one of the first continental coffee lounges in Wellington and quickly became a local institution.
Matterhorn successfully mixed good food, beverages and music to once again become a Wellington institution. It hosted the first ever outing of the band that was to become Fat Freddy's Drop. A couple of years later the famous Fat Freddy's album Live at Matterhorn was recorded here

The Apollo's Historic Theater was designed by George Keister and was owned by Sidney Cohen. In 1914, Benjamin Hurtig and Harry Seamon obtained a thirty-year lease on the newly built theater, calling it Hurtig and Seamon's New Burlesque Theatre. Like many American theaters during this era, African Americans were not allowed to patronize or perform.
In 1933, Fiorello La Guardia, who would later become mayor of New York City, began a campaign against burlesque and Hurtig & Seamon's was one of many theaters that would close. Cohen reopened the building as the 125th Street Apollo Theater in 1934 with his partner, Morris Sussman, as manager. Cohen and Sussman changed the shows' format from burlesque revues to variety revues and redirected their marketing attention to Harlem's growing African-American community.
Frank Schiffman and Leo Brecher took over the Apollo in 1935. The Schiffman and Brecher families operated the theater until the late 1970s. The Apollo briefly reopened in 1978 under new management and then closed again in November 1979. In 1981, it was purchased by Percy. Sutton, a prominent lawyer, politician, media and technology executive and a group of private investors. Under Sutton's ownership, the Theater was equipped with a recording and television studio.
In 1983, the Apollo received state and city landmark status and in 1991, the Apollo Theater Foundation, Inc. was established as a private, non-profit organization to manage, fund and oversee the Apollo Theatre's programming. Today, the Apollo, which operates under the direction of a board of directors, presents concerts, performing arts, education and community outreach programs. Soon, the Apollo will embark on expanding its physical footprint, becoming the operator and manager of the cultural space located a few doors down within the Victoria Theater Redevelopment Project. The Apollo Victoria Theater will offer vibrant arts, educational and community programs year-round that draw on Harlem's cultural heritage and celebrate the enormous wellspring of creativity found in our neighborhood
The Apollo has played an important role in the rise of jazz, swing, bebop, R&B, gospel, blues and soul

Built by undocumented workers at the end of the 19th Century, The Hideout was a regular bar for irregular people who just didn't fit it, or didn't want to fit in. This was the place where the worker and the hustler met for beer, eggs and live music. It was run by undocumented bootleggers and gin runners, running numbers, racing horses, making deals, and moving in the make.
Every night for over a decade, punk rock, alt-country, indie rock, post-rock whatever, would break out their instruments and play like it is the last night on earth. The Hideout is music, art, performance, plays, poetry, rock and rebellion.
The Hideout is not your Dad’s bar, but your Granddad’s bar. It is the bar that Granddad went to when he was young and crazy.
