It was a pleasure for The Holywell Club to, once again, support the Widows Sons MBA Sussex Chapter on the Clay Shoot on Sunday 17th Sept. It was a great turnout and the weather held off whilst the shoot was in progress. We did get a little wet dismantling and storing away the equipment but it successful and fun raising some £2,700 for charity.

It was really good to see masons and non-masons attending including some newly made light blues from the East Group. Looking forward to the next event.

A date for your diary. The Widows Sons MBA – Sussex Chapter, supported by the Holywell Club have organised a Clay Shoot on Sunday 17th September. An ideal event to both raise funds for the Christmas Toy Run, providing toys and vouchers to sick children across Sussex and for new, and not so new, masons to meet up socially with each other, their families and friends.

As usual we will kick off the morning with a hearty breakfast at the Custom Café and then debark across the road for 3 hours of clay shooting. Equipment, guns, cartridges and tuition will be provided.

Please book early as places will be limited.

We meet at The Treacle Mine at the Polegate service area, usually for an early morning brekka on a Sunday. No great story started with someone eating a salad after all. 🙂

Day 2 of Airbourne started a little wet but as the sun broke through, the crowds emerged. I would like to have said that they came to see us, but I think the Red Arrows may have had something to to do with it.

The day produced 3 positive leads and 2/3 that we hope will come to fruition of the next few days. Many interesting discussions with, and interest from, ex military personnel. We were also able to point 3 ladies in the direction of HFAF/OWF.

Grateful thanks to the Day 2 Team: Andy William & Jim O'Hara (Langport), Stephen Sands (Anderida), Nick Clive-Matthews (Old EB), Gary Sivers (Royal Connaught) and Bob Lewis (Templa Aquila et al.)

The really busy day on Wednesday collecting the display equipment (plus a lot of bits surplus to requirement), we finally got the display unit erected at 8pm with a lot of help from John Cornish and Tony Padley. John preceded to make a list of the parts we had left behind and kindly fetched them for us the following morning.

The 1st day was a great success, lots of conversations and support from local masons, their families and masons from other parts of the country, plus 5 prospective candidates.

We would really like to thank the Day 1 team - Iain Shore (Tyrian 1110), Geoff Smith and Colin Rhodes (St Michaels 4426), Paul Taylor (Tyrian 1110) and Roger Lywood (Tyrian 1110) who join Karl and myself. Great fun Brethren.

Some great Sunday mornings out, between now and October. Hunting down that ever "elusive" Full English Breakfast.

If you're on two wheels and there's an engine below you, come along. Full details are on our website (www.wsmbasussex.com) including the route. Simon Rideout, our Road Captain and Motorcycle Police Officer, will hopefully be leading on some of the rides, work commitments permitting.

If you want to rideout with us or just need more details then contact Jo: Email: [email protected]

Really looking forward to the AirBourne event. Weather looks set fair and the crowds will be out in force.

Many thanks to the 25 volunteers who have agreed to man the pitch, and help spread the word, between the 18th-21st August, we couldn't have done this without you.

If you around those days, please stop by and say hello, you will be most welcome and even more so if you are bearing coffee and cake.

Just back from the Barford Court Friends zoom meeting.
It’s taking time to get back to how things were.

The Annual Fayre has been postponed until next year. The Holywell Club are ready to provide the BBQ, and provide the tea and coffee when it goes ahead in Summer 2023.

The focus is now on promoting the 2022 Barford Court Annual raffle, which is now being provided electronically.

It’s fair to say, a significant number of us don’t understand the charities we support as well as we maybe should.

Barford Court ,sadly for many only comes into our consciousness, when our members need it.

A lot of work is done to support the home,by a very few committed people.
It’s my honour to know them and to be able to assist in a very small way in comparison.

We know life is tough right now,but please if you can’t support the raffle financially, please share it with your fellow members and actively encourage it.

Spreading the word costs nothing.

Our PGM the RW Christopher Littern Moore will be drawing the raffle in January 2023.

Time is marching on.

Please help us make this a success.

A recorded zoom interview with WBro Peter Whiteside,is being planned to discuss the main charities,to support the brethren in obtaining a greater appreciation and understanding this vital part of Freemasonry.

We will share that soon.

S&F,
WBro Karl Hopper-Young, PProv,JGD, Holywell
Club representative and Barford Court mini bus driver trained volunteer.
