The last time CC Adcock + The Lafayette Marquis played SXSW was a long time ago. They made the local papers for a "chicken kicking" incident at The Continental Club and then destroying an upright bass and getting arrested the following night during the first song of their official label showcase on 6th St. The year was 2004 and they were in town for their "Lafayette Marquis" record release. Surely they've matured as a band since then and will be on better focused form this year, as the music industry has become so much more prosperous and reputable since then...

Known for their tremelo-laden signature swamp sound, CC and his band have provided the soundtrack for the redneck vampire series (wasn't a stretch) "True Blood", Billy Friedkin’s "Killer Joe", and are heavily featured in the currently buzzing remake of "Road House", which comes out later this month and was this year's big SXSW opening night premiere. The band has definitely got its war paint back on and are looking forward to debuting their new music/single from the film along with their time-tested ass-shakin' "zyde-billy" faves.

They'll be joined by Swamp Pop sensation Tommy McLain, who'll be celebrating his 84th birthday come this Friday the 15th on our SoCo Stomp stage!! Tommy and CC have enjoyed a fairytale last few years touring the world behind their heavily lauded "I Ran Down Every Dream" record - Tommy's first release in 40 years!

Y'all, this show of Louisiana legends is guaranteed to be both sweet & savory!

There is no better way to close out the Stomp – on St. Patrick’s Day no less – than with the shiniest man in show business. Shinyribs defies genres as a sonic melting pot of Texas Blues, New Orleans R&B funk, horn-driven Memphis Soul, country twang, border music, big band swing, and roots-rock. The Austin-based supergroup is led by Kevin Russell, the charismatic frontman with colorful suits and extravagant shoes who continuously swaps out an electric guitar for a ukulele and never falls short of creating a cinematic experience with on-stage antics that often include him donning a light-up cloak or leading a conga line through the crowd. Don’t miss the always-a-blast SoCo Stomp finale, Sun. March 17th @ 6:15pm.

03/12/2024

Ian Moore, the Seattle-based, Austin, TX-bred guitar player, singer and songwriter makes the proverbial renaissance man look lazy. He’s gone from primarily blues-based recorded beginnings to an incredible discography of bright, blazing rock-n-roll, graceful pop and psychedelic garage rock over the past 30 years that combines his legendary guitar prowess with radio-friendly songs showcasing his elastic, soul-inflected vocals. We’re thrilled he’s joining us at the Stomp, not only for his set Sunday, but lending his vocals and guitar during our Replacements tribute on Saturday @ 3:30pm.

We are thrilled to present a rock and roll icon, celebrated singer and songwriter Alejandro Escovedo, who has as eclectic a background and body of work as any rock artist of his generation. As comfortable performing with a string ensemble as he is with an amped-up power trio, and as likely to bare his soul in his lyrics as he is to display some serious rock & roll swagger, Escovedo had already played an important role in punk (with the Nuns), roots rock (the True Believers), and alt-country (Rank & File) before he launched a solo career that's seen him work with everyone from Tony Visconti, John Cale to Bruce Springsteen. See him at the Stomp this Friday, March 15, 6:15 PM C-Boy's Heart & Soul.

If the best parts of your classic British Invasion, 50s country, 60s pop, and pure rock ’n’ roll records could be transformed into a person, they might look and sound a lot like Chuck Prophet Chuck Prophet Official. For almost 30 years, this Bay Area songwriter has reliably delivered albums so pleasingly familiar that, had he started a few decades earlier, it’d be easy to imagine him outshining the likes of Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen. Prophet has the charisma of an arena star, and thanks to his catchy guitar riffs, powerful choruses, and seductively casual vocal style, which could trick you into thinking he’s talking straight into your ear, his live shows always sound larger than the clubs where he plays. Onstage Prophet, is accompanied by the harmony and duet vocals of keyboardist Stephanie Finch, and the tightest rock ‘n roll outfit in the land, the Mission Express. Don't miss them at the Stomp, this Thurs. @ 4:45pm C-Boy's Heart & Soul.

We are beyond excited to present Sir Woman sirwomanmusic to close out our outside stage on the first day of the Stomp, Wed. March 13, 6:15pm C-Boy's Heart & Soul . To say that Sir Woman has taken the crowded Austin music scene by storm this past couple years would be a massive understatement. With the release of their full-length self-titled debut, the band has quickly skyrocketed to headliner status at Austin's most venerable clubs, and garnered several band and individual 2023 Austin Music Award nominations for Band Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Musician Of The Year (Kelsey Wilson), Best Drummer (Amber Baker), and Best Keyboardist (Dan Creamer).
The rolling funk/soul ensemble began as a solo vehicle for Wild Child and Glorietta vocalist Kelsey Wilson a mere two years ago. Their dynamic and joyful stage show led to quick buzz, with their recorded catalog quickly catching up to the acclaim (over 20m plays on Spotify alone). Don’t miss it!

You don’t want to miss Barfield Barfield, The Tyrant closing out the outside stage Sat. March 16th at 6:15pm. Led by the man himself, the Tyrant of Texas Funk, Mike Barfield, the southern gentleman of Texas soul is one of the most exciting front men on any scene today. Sixty four years old and straight out of a long tradition of Gulf Coast entertainers, Barfield is a must see live show. Imagine James Brown meets Johnny Cash fronting a very Texan version of the Clash.

With a long standing residency at Austin's famed Continental Club, Barfield has honed a most exciting mix of funk and garage soul with a psychedelic twist.

We are thrilled to have the great Gypsy Mitchell Gypsymitchellfunk playing the Stomp on Thurs. March 14th at 2:15pm. Gypsy was born in Dallas, TX in 1952. At the age of 17, he formed the innovative gospel funk group The Relatives with Rev. Gean West and Tommie West, co-writing, arranging, and playing guitar on their first two singles. This material was later reissued by Heavy Light / Light in the Attic and Daptone Records. After launching his new solo band with a C-Boy's residency in the fall of 2022, Gypsy recorded an all-new LP of original funk and R&B at Arlyn Studios with producers Zach Ernst Zach Ernst and Matt Strmiska Matt Strmiska. The album will be released by the French label Modulor Music Modulor in the fall of 2024.

Believe it – and miss at your own peril – this set is going to be one of the most talked about the entire week of SXSW, as Austin stalwarts English Teeth & Friends continue a years-long tradition paying tribute to one of the bands that inspired them as well as the rest of us. This year we’re calling it “The S**t Hits the Fans!”, featuring the music of the Replacements, the legendary Minneapolis band formed in 1979. The title is a nod to a typically scattered and brilliant show documented on one of the band’s live records of the same name.

The list of guest singers joining English Teeth is as mind-blowing as it is varied: punk legend John Doe , brilliant guitarist/artist/writer Ian Moore , iconic Austin punk pioneer Alejandro Escovedo , A Giant Dog’s force of nature Sabrina Ellis , San Francisco’s Mayor of Rock ‘n Roll Chuck Prophet , Austin vocal powerhouse Sisi , country-blues hero Ramsay Midwood , and indie rock legend and co-founder of Spoon, Britt Daniel .

We’re so pleased to bring Calder Allen back for his second Stomp appearance on Fri. March 15 @ 2:15pm. At 21, Allen is one of the newest rising acts to emerge from the fertile Austin songwriting ground. Both audibly and lyrically beyond his years, Allen is a prolific singer-songwriter and self-taught guitarist whose sophomore album, like his first, is being recorded by Charlie Sexton and Jacob Sciba at Austin’s Aryln Studios.

A fifth-generation Austinite, natural ability and love of music is embedded in his DNA--among his musical inspirations are his grandfather Terry Allen, his producer Charlie Sexton, Guy Clark and Townes Van Zandt.

On Wed. March 13 @ 4:45pm, the Stomp is honored to present the brilliant Tameca Jones , an Austin-based soul and R&B singer whose made a name for herself as the "Queen of Austin Soul". We're proud to have seen her career develop in part through a residency at C-Boy’s sister club, the Continental Gallery, just a few blocks north on Congress. Don’t miss this Austin legend.

Always a highlight on whatever bill he performs, Ray Wylie Hubbard is an absolute can’t miss set at the Stomp on Thurs. March 14 @ 6:15pm. We are so thrilled to present this American icon.

A willing conspirator in the late-70s Cosmic Cowboy revolt that ushered in the mythical Outlaw era, Hubbard was a catalyst in the cultural upheaval that led to the peaceful coexistence of Lone Star music enthusiasts who comprised each end of the social and political spectrum of that troubled time. In the stellar company of iconic colleagues like Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Doug Sahm and Jerry Jeff Walker, Ray Wylie Hubbard was an architect of the musical legacy that continues to inspire subsequent generations of up-and-coming Texas talent.

Hubbard is a Texas singer-songwriter, complete with the classic trifurcated handle, fundamental chapter of the canon in his song catalog ("Redneck Mother"), and enough wild hairs in his past to qualify him as a legend. His career arc has been on the most satisfying musical and lyrical journeys to witness over the last two decades. In the years that followed his Cosmic beginnings, he evolved into a writer of uncommonly honest portraits of life, alternately mixing deep personal sagas with poignant character studies of those traveling on the dark side of the road. If one wanted to describe the sound of Ray Wylie Hubbard, one could call it American music, born from the time-honored traditions of folk, country, and roots rock.

The SoCo Stomp couldn’t be more honored to present the great Tommy Stinson on Fri. March 15th @ 2:45pm. In plain words, Tommy Stinson is a rock and roll legend. Stinson was a founding and lifetime member of The Replacements and a key ingredient in second-generation Guns N’ Roses. He also served a seven-year tenure with Soul Asylum and led two essential bands of his own – Bash & Pop and Perfect – AND released several great solo albums. His latest project “Cowboys in the Campfire”, is a duo with Chip Roberts, whose debut album, “Wronger”, came out to amazing reviews this past summer. Don’t miss Tommy!!!

We’re thrilled to present DANIEL DONATO’S COSMIC COUNTRY at the Stomp on Wed. March 13th @ 2:15pm.
