• Willie Horton

In 1962, Horton became the second African Amrerican to play for the Detroit Tigers. He also played for five other Major League teams and retired with 325 home runs. In 2000, the Tigers retired his number and placed a statue of him in Comerica Park.

Much of what Horton learned about teamwork, responsibility, and leadership came from family, guardians, and coaches. After he retired, Horton himself became a mentor and the executive director of Detroit PAL, guided by the belief that "sports makes you realize you can be anything and do anything you want in life."

In 2000, Horton started the Willie Horton Foundations to create opportunities for youth in Detroit through baseball and quality education for all children. Thank you Willie Horton for everything you do for our PAL kids!
