I was told in 2005, when I was doing well and on the rise here as a music artist in the beautiful Bay Area that I need to go elsewhere in the world to make it happen better. I started making plans but among other things didn’t want to leave my son like that.

A few years later I was told by a well known and highly regarded that I need to go elsewhere in the world to make a good go at my career. He said a lot of well known artists live in the Bay Area but rarely work here.
I still wasn’t ready.

There are finally 2-1/2 months before I put that advice into action. Thanks to my wife’s dream of going back to her home country, I’m finally getting the opportunity to build my career and life elsewhere. Will I be missed? I doubt it, artistically speaking.

I’ve able to do some really amazing things here in the Bay Area. Consistent growth as an artist, hire and work with some world class musicians, play many, many great shows over the years, watch my son Zach become a really great artist and monster keyboardist before his passing at the end of 2020.

The most important thing is that I have been able to stay healthy, and not necessarily “road worn” physically. That will serve me well as I move forward. Life has hit me hard in other ways as it does to all of us. I’m going to Europe as a more “complete” package than I would have earlier in life, plus I actually officially have a home to grow from!

But I have some good thing’s to do first before I go:

1) Zach Fest '24 Community Benefit Concert to raise money for two nonprofit charities and play music in the beautiful old Fox Theatre RWC. April 27, 2024

2) Finish a new body of music work I am calling - “The Dignity Project”. I hope you all will stay tuned on this process and the story behind it of which I will attempt to publish a brief book about the songs, sort of a “World Blues” philosophy. Why not? I’m starting to love writing anyway!

Friends, there are few things I have experienced that touched my heart more deeply than the years of taking part in watching and helping to nurture my son, Zach play and create music.
I learned a lot and was inspired by his love for music. Sometimes I fear the current and next steps in this lifelong journey I have been on well before Zach was born. But Zach was an old soul and I have always been an open book to get better as a musician and artist.
In fact, when Zach began discovering other bands in the world I always asked him what he thought about the guitar players. I hoped that when my own time was up that he might have finally considered me his favorite guitarist! Haha! Truly a running joke but it added fuel to my fire!
I hope you watch this video and really take it in. It’s from the very last time we played at The Lost Church in San Francisco May 16, 2014. It really was a gorgeous musical moment.
The owner didn’t like the fact that I set up my electric rig, which was actually only for this song, since we were “opening” the show for another artist and it took a little extra time to set up.
“Unbelieved”(in denial)to me at the time, Zach was struggling with his addiction. He was also working three jobs. He was exhausted the whole time. I wanted to believe he just needed sleep.
I only mention this fact because of how proud I am for the fight Zach waged against his addiction. A fight not everyone wins. But to know he established a positive presence in the Recovery Community using music as a tool for connection and comfort and his personal healing.
This is a cornerstone reason I hope to honor Zach with this upcoming inaugural Zach Fest Memorial Concert and 30th Birthday Celebration April 2 at the Big Fox in Redwood City.

I wish to thank every one of you kind people for connecting with Zach’s Cares-Community!

This will be the FB Hub of activity and updates as WE grow this community, that surely will not only be about Zach and our memories of him, but about others we have lost to this scourge of addiction epidemic that gives no quarter to anyone in spite of upbringing and how talented or loved they may be or have been.

I know for sure Zach would want this - people “coming together” with music as the centerpiece. This is why I am diving off of the cliff, having secured rental of the Fox Theatre in Redwood City for the inaugural Zach Fest: Saturday April 2, 2022 .

It is an incredibly beautiful and newly renovated venue. I was amazed when I did a walkthrough after doing the deal.

Thanks to those of you who generously contributed and continue to contribute to the Zach’s Cares Go Fund Me campaign. The funds have allowed us to get some brilliant artwork completed while also helping to put a down payment on the venue.

Of course our band “Garrick Davis World Blues”, of which Zach was a central player, will appear, as well as more bands and musicians to be announced. So keep your eyes on this Page!

We will be announcing a Zoom Meeting in the near future. We definitely need a community of volunteers and businesses to create what can be a great celebration guided by the great spirit my son possessed in his short life.

Another collaboration w Zach: This was about the period Zach was obsessed with The Dave Matthews Band so what to do(from my end) but go with it!
Zach was 15 here. He was always with me on Monday and Wednesdays so we would play music and try new things together. This year(2007)marked huge musical growth for Zach. That keyboard received many hours of playing time and was the one we used for the “Expose Your Self” album.
