In 1982 Larry Silver gutted the hotel and turned the 123 rooms into 59 spacious one to two bedroom suites, renaming it to the Commonwealth Park Suites Hotel.

The pineapple has a 500+ year legacy as the emblem of hospitality.

When sailors searched for places to rest in port towns following their explorations at sea, they were able to identify residents that would welcome them in by the pineapples hung at the entrances to their homes.

Ever since, the pineapple has been used to express that ‘you are welcome here’ - a fitting way to describe the uniquely Richmond Commonwealth Hotel.
