Join us tonight for the Mondays in the Park series at Liberty Park! We’ll feature performances by the Edo Association of Utah at 7 pm, followed by the live band Kechi at 8 pm!

7pm Edo Association of Utah - The UYIEDO Cultural Group from Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, is dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich heritage of the Edo people. Through traditional music, dance, and art, the group showcases the vibrant customs and history of their community, fostering cultural pride and continuity among both locals and the broader audience.

8pm Kechi performs traditional Turkish folk music and is part of the Utah Turkish American Association (UTAA). The group consists of nine members, most of whom were born and raised in Turkey and now live in Utah. They play piano, guitar, and several different drums, as well as traditional Turkish instruments. The music they typically perform are traditional Turkish folk, classical, pop, and Anatolian rock music, incorporating old songs that are well known by anyone who has grown up in Turkey, evoking childhood memories, and shared memories that bring our Utah Turkish community together.

One particular highlight is our free School Day for elementary students, which welcomed over 1,500 young learners. This initiative allowed students to experience and appreciate different cultures through interactive and educational activities.

Get ready to groove to the rhythms of zydeco! We're thrilled to announce that on Friday, May 17th, The Living Traditions Festival will be graced by the electrifying sounds of Geno Delafose & French Rockin’ Boogie from 8-9 PM!

As a pioneer in the genre, Delafose has crafted the unique sound of nouveau zydeco, infusing traditional Creole music with elements of Cajun, country, and western influences. His talent has earned him a Grammy Award nomination for 'Best Zydeco Or Cajun Music Album' for the acclaimed 'Le Cowboy Creole' album.

This marks the third time that Geno joins us at the festival, and we couldn't be more excited! Make sure to plan your weekend accordingly, because this performance is not to be missed!

The Living Traditions Festival holds a special place in our hearts for countless reasons, and here's one that truly shines. Last year, we witnessed a remarkable milestone with one of our cherished craft vendors, Diane Moffat, known for her exquisite Armenian Hand Knotted Carpets. Diane has been part of our festival family for over 30 years, now joined by her granddaughter Julia.

Julia, embarked on a unique journey at the age of 6 by starting her own rug at our festival. Her goal? To complete this masterpiece by the time she graduated high school. Over the span of 12 Living Traditions Festivals, Julia diligently worked on her rug solely during our event, embodying the true essence of a 'Living Tradition.'

We were incredibly fortunate to witness and capture the joyous moment when Julia finished her rug, just weeks before her graduation. This story epitomizes the spirit of our festival—a place where family legacies intertwine with cultural heritage, creating lasting memories for generations to come.

We can't wait to create more memories and traditions with you all this year! May 17-19 at Washington and Library Square.
