Hello Ballard Odd Fellows & Friends,

Leading out, I want to acknowledge that reality is very tumultuous right now, and that I hope you are safe, whether you are participating in the demonstrations or only affected by them.

We're getting together online tonight at 7:00 PM PST, and I'd like to leave space to discuss the demonstrations, the murder of George Floyd and others, and their impact on us as an organization and as individuals.

The first Thursday is traditionally movie night, so we've also got Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing" cued up to watch.

On April 26th, each year we celebrate the founding of our Order in North America by Thomas Wildey. We are told of his great passion for spreading Odd Fellowship across the continent and his many decades of travel. Less, however, is known about his personal life. This year approaching our 201st Anniversary this quote seemed appropriate for today and is dedicated to all the medical workers, first responders, and essential workers. Each day they are putting themselves at risk taking care of us and keeping everything as close to normal as possible.

CHARTER MEMBERS OF FAR EAST LODGE NO.1 INDEPENDENT ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS LOCATED IN YOKOHAMA JAPAN, FOUNDED IN 1888

This Lodge grew to about 40 members and even established a second Lodge in Kobe, Japan, just a few years after. Sadly, IOOF died out due to political instability in Japan and the wars between America and Japan that occurred in the 20th Century.
