Whilst having good systems, processes & SOPs and training your team to utilise these are important in any business to provide consistency, efficiencies and to ensure you are following applicable regulatory guidelines, are you regularly checking in with the team to ensure they are following best business practices? Or is it just a checklist opportunity for your new starters?
For those in the Hospitality world, regular refresher training blocks can be challenging to roster & briefing times can be short so on-the-fly training becomes important to ensure gaps in your training processes are identified and corrected.
On the fly training can also be used to start discussions and lead into further learning opportunities and upskilling for all team members no matter whether they are new to your business, or you are lucky enough to have had them on board for a while.
Utilising On the Fly training cards as prompts for identifying gaps & as a starting point for discussions creates a fun way to engage team members at any stage of their journey. It was interesting to see that Host Responsibility was a gap area for new team members and employees that had been in the business for a while.
Host Responsibility is a regulatory area in the Hospitality industry, therefore, is something that must be implemented and followed to ensure compliance with the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act, to find that team members are not familiar with this can be concerning. Whilst they are trained to follow the principles of Host Responsibility, not knowing why they are doing this can still cause issues for your business.
What are the surprising gaps in learning for your business?
How are you upskilling your teams?
